  1. Fellow fisher persons, I'm a keen angler and would like to learn the art of black fishing and would like someone to teach me the game. 33 YO professional male based in Inner West Sydney (sounds like an internet dating line!!). I have my own equipment and trasnport which should be suitable for a the time being (Bruce Alvey Special rod - 12 ft with alvey side cast reel) . Preferably in the harbour, or rockplatforms or 45 min either side of the bridge. PM me if you are interested. Willing to throw in some beers of your choice to sweeten the deal - Cheers
  2. Top work. Both cracking fish from the stones
  3. Awesome effort from Sydney!! I believe that may be a new Fishraider record. Congratulations. Hurry up withthe video!!
  4. Nice dose of dioxins there - heh heh
  5. Just wondering if anyone would mind me tagging along for a blackfishing session off the rocks? I'm keen to learn some basics. I'm a regular drummer fisho, but wold like another challenge to target blackfish (luderick) Cheers
  6. How long is a piece of string? Depends what you want to catch and if you have a boat or not? Can you provide any other info?
  7. Top work. Witness the whole series of events from a kayak. Cheers
  8. "The bigger one (approx. 50cm) I thought was a kingie as he took a lot of line off me. But alas I still haven't got my kingie" A king will pull a lot more line off you than at 50cm Bonnie. (just wait - you will be pleasantly surprised ) "Q. So how do I get kingie to jump on over a bonnie. " A. fish where there are more kings than bonnies - heh heh Only kidding. Maybe run your livie a little deeper and/or use a bigger live bait. "If I were to use squid would a bonnie smash it anyway?" Maybe, but probably better chance of enticing a take from a king as opposed to a yakka "I have also learnt to had a second dropper hook to my lives as I was previously getting plenty of hit with no hook up the first couple of times" Shouldn't need a stinger hook if fishing for kings. Remember kings have pretty good eye sight, and a stinger hook from a stationary livie may put them off (note use a second hook with dead squid) "What are my chances of landing a decent king on 14 pound braid and 40pound leader?" Not real good but not impossible. You should be Ok on a just legal king, but an 80cm fish will give you a good run for your money. Depends on where you are fishing and your skills. Just remember that your 14 lb braid and although likely to have a higher breaking strain, it will have bugger all abrasion resistance, so you need to take car if fishing land based. Just keep at it and you will get there. It's all a learning experience
  9. Fellow Raiders, Had the unfortunate incident of having my gear swept off the rocks this moring. Anyway, if anyone by chance finds a black/green back pack with yellow dry bag attached could they give us a yell or PM me. 0432719129. Reward offered. It should be foating between Manly and South Head by now. Cheers Oh - if you do find it, you may want to toss the green coles bag as it has the bait and burley in it
  10. Went for a quick rock hop at Warriewood on Sunday 19 December with a few friends. Was nursing a massive self inflicted headache from believe it or not a Friday Work Christmas party. The water was very flat and there was very little wash about. Was fishing with peeled prawn. Action was pretty slow, but a friend did manage a nice 40 cm ish snapper and rat king, which he reluctantly released on my advice as it was under 65 cm (he thought the size limit was 60). Catch of the day was a 46 cm Red Morwong by me - heh heh. Think that may been new Fishraider record (will post evidence tonight)? Decided to keep it as have not been on the rocks for a while. Cooked a fillet by steaming Chinese style with shallots, ginger, shao xing wine, light soy, sugar and chicken stock. Yummo - very similar to Snapper. I did manage to loose my work phone. If anyone finds a blackberry down on the rocks let me know. It was in a zip lock bag, but i'm sure its fried by now. Still the SD card contains a lot of important information including all my Swiss bank account details and passwords but more importantly some pics of my recent catches. Will post a pic tonight Cheers
  11. Structure + Burley + Bait small hooks small bait = Yakkas If you are using bait jigs, add a bit of bait If you want a lesson, go down to Walsh Bay Wharf and watch the islander families do it (no racism intended). They always come back with bucket loads.
  12. Had my recent fishing fix by hitting the rock ledges on Sat morn. After we had finished up with a nice feed of Drummer, I walked past two seperate groups of fisher people in seperate spots. The blatant disrespect for size limits and rules realy annoyed me. Both groups were fairley well equipped, both groups said they had fishing licences. When the issue of size limits were raised, one in the first group gave me the "no englis" line the other replied "were werent going to take them home any way" - even though both fish were dead on the rock. He then picked them up and threw them back in the water!!!!! In the second group, I saw a number of very under size goper, I asked the guy who was cleaning them, if he had a license. He replied "Yes". i asked him did he know the fishing rules. He said "yes". I asked him did he measure the fish. No reply........ IN the heat of the momengt I said I was going to call fisheries (in hind sight I should of left it and just called them). He responded by picking up his undersized catch and also throwing them into the water. Serioulsy felt like throwing him in the water. It appears that some know the rules and keep undersized fish, knowing that it is highly unlikly they will ever encouter a fisheries officier. I should of taken photos. I was tempted to pull the rope up on my way out - heh heh
  13. Nice work on your 1st King. Must have been a yellow tail or slimey that you put on your hook as the legal size of tailor is 30 cm
  14. Mate, those spots are either caused by sand flies or mozzies. I have family down there and have been around greenwell point a few times. always after a big day fishing land based by the way) we would all get those spots on limbs where there was no clothing. They will itch for a few days and the spots will slowy fade after a week Cheers
  15. Hi, I'm in the market for a new beach/rock rod reel combo. I'd like to start getting a bit more involved in live baiting of the beach and rocks. I already have an old alvey 600 light surf outfit which I use for sambos. looking at spending under $200.00. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  16. Hi, First post. A mate and I ventured down to the Monaro for the trout season opening to do some varmint hunting and have a crack at some trout. The skies were clear but the wind was howling. Much too windy for fly fishing. We had to use the heavy 13.5g Tassie devils to combat the wind. My mate landed ta 52cm long brown on the rainbow trout patter with ribs see photo (sorry no scales avalable). A few other small hook ups. The location is near Nimmitibale NSW. Cheers
