This report has got me pumped to hit up a bit of beach fishing. Can i ask if the squid were kept alive when you caught your Jew ? Also, can anyone advise the best way to keep squid fresh, and if squid can be frozen and fished the following day successfully. Cheers

Great catch mate. Well done on landing it. Been a few photos recently of good snapper being caught inside the heads. Gives us people that get seasick some hope. wrapped in foil with a few spices on the BBQ....Yummy !!!

Good work on the bream mate. Those stradic reals are awsome...drag is so smooth, My mate has one of the 1000 models, spooled with 2 pound line which he uses for bream and whiting. Wouldnt want to get a big bi-catch.. I just got a Symetre 4000 for bigger lures to target big flatties and possible JEWs.. Absolutely love it. Hope you get many more fish on it. Cheers

Does anyone know of any good fishing videos that have good Jewfish footage on it ? I have watched JEWFISH SECRETS ( filmed on Hawksebury ) CRAIG MAGILLS LOCAL KNOWLEDGE ( gets a 35 KG JEWY ) and CRAIG MAGILLS SYDNEY FISHING ( Jewys on plastics ) Im am very interested in everything about Jewys, and I need something to fire me up for my next outing. 1400 grams is a serious whiting mate. I was googling Australian Records, and there is a page that held records up until 2004/2005. http://www.aaawa.iinet.net.au/NationalAAAFishingRecords.html The whiting record was 1.025KG from the Georges River. Your fish must of had serious obesity problems. ; ) Well done mate

Hi, I have a Shimano Baitrunner 4500B reel, that i have been using to bait fish for jewies, kings ect. I do alot of landbased fishing, and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good rod to go with this reel. I previously used a Shimano Backbone Snapper Rod,, and should of taken it out of the rod holders when driving my mates boat under an overhanging branch in upper middle harbour. I love the baitrunner reel, and would like a good strong rod to go with it. Although i liked the backbone, i would appreciate some other recommendations from all you fishos. Cheers

Between me and my mates, we have caught about 5 jews there. Its a good land based spot. Big deep holes and lots of mullet around for them to feed on. 3 have been caught on whole pilchards, mine on a half pilchard, and one was strangely caught on a twitching nipper soft plastic, 1st cast for the day. Have tried all the prime jewy baits, ( fresh mullet, squid, taylor fillet, yakkas,) and never had much luck. Its always the pilchards that get smacked. Is a nightmare baiting up when those chopper tailor are around though.
