  1. G'day Fishraiders, Got a problem with the 5hp outboard. It just recently began 'slipping' when under load at nearly full throttle. The engine speeds up as the prop does not engage and the boat slows down. I flush the motor after each use in a drum with water and some detergent and a friend has told me that the detergent could be creating this slipping problem. Your comments would be appreciated........ Thanks and good fishing.
  2. 45cm is a baby compared to 'em around here. Seriously though, Sydney is pretty far South for turtles to venture.
  3. Hi Fishraiders - I am thinking of getting a box trailer to transport my tinnies. One is 10 foot and the other is a 12 foot job. Just a bit concerned about overhang off the trailer. Any other possible hassles? Thanks!
  4. Peter, try a lot further upstream next time and do it in the summer months. Check Covanovas post in January under the title "colo weekend". He hit the river via the Canoe Creek trail.
  5. Mick - thanks for Ginspiel, Hooky - thanks for local legend. I've had a profitable day!!!

Thanks mate - I will try and file that information in my deteriorating memory bank.
  7. Sharky - thanks mate but I've had a better offer from a pussy up this way.
  8. Been catching (and releasing) some cobia lately - I know its a bit late to ask but are they any good to eat?? Good Fishing.
  9. Good effort Covanova - the pics brought back memories. I have fished quite a bit of it. Canoe Creek was where they recovered the body of a hermit a few years ago. You might be surprised just how often the upper Colo is fished - there are several well known access points and several less well known ones. The upper Colo servo can give you the goss on weekend fishing parties! A warning to anyone thinking of fishing the area - don't venture there in times of heavy rain or floods. The river can rise FAST.
  10. Hi Guys Here is a photo of an 89cm lizard - she was taken on an Ecogear Tank early in October. Apologies for the poor quality of the print but I was rushing to get the old girl back into the water. You can get some idea of her size from the fishing rod - its an 8 footer. Unusual to get big females around here this time of year. Most of them turn up in Autumn. Good fishing!
  11. Yes - plenty of fish in Grahamstown but no fishing is allowed (councillors and water board employees excepted of course). Another Newcastle storage facility, Chichester Dam, is also off limits to fishermen - its located in the heart of good trout country.
  12. Yes, thats the Cox's River but it relies on water released from Lake Wallace. I fished it several times but only caught smallish rainbows. I have not fished it since Water Conservation removed the willow trees along its banks. Maybe its worth a look now but there are better streams to explore.
  13. 2" fat grubs in motor oil or avocado worked well for us in the Blue Mountains last weekend. Plenty of water in the areas we fished - the 2 creeks (small - you can easily step over them) are spring fed and we have fished them in drought for good browns and rainbows. Quantity was up last weekend but quality was down with all fish under a kilo. I havn't fished the Turon for many years but used to get good results from several of its feeder streams. If the river isn't firing take a map and do some exploring. Good fishing!
  14. Mate - if you are launching the boat at Soldiers Point you might as well throw a line there! Some good lizard fishing between the ramp and Dowadee Island. If you can catch the rising or high tide drift the shallow water around Shag Island, Bushy Island and One Tree Island - good area for lizards. If you want deeper water try around Middle Island. Flathead are on the bite but bream are still a bit shy. The clear water is not helping. There are heaps of good areas to try if you want to travel further in your boat - the Karuah River for example. Sorry I can't help with bait as I use sps. Good fishing!
  15. It's an OK spot - although some holes have silted up. Also worth trying the reserves at Flat Rock and at the O'Connell bridge. Check out the trout photos at the Tarana pub!
