  1. There is a bush walk that runs right from sirius cove to clifton gardens and taylors bay is accessible from this track. it has several other points of entry through taronga zoo, bradleys head and more, just check a street directory should show it. you can walk down onto the beach in the eastern corner of the bay.
  2. Mate id be sure to shout you a couple of beers for a big specimen like that. I tried to burley up some yakkas in the rain this morning down at clifton gardens but all i got were those little pinky snapper on every cast of the handline. Thanks for the response fellas,
  3. Gday fishraiders, If anyone over the next 2 weeks catches a fish with a "doctor" in the mouth, commonly found in the mouths of trevs, slimys, yakkas, bonnies etc. could you please pull it out and keep it in a jar or something and let me know if your in sydney and Ill come and get it off you or ill give you my address for you to post it. It doesnt have to be kept alive but if it can be all the better. This would be really appreciated, I am studying these critters at uni and really need some for my lab classes and a presentation. I have seen heaps in the past in fish i have caught, but never thought id need one 1 day so always tossed them away in disgust hah. For those who dont know they those white "bugs", about a cm or 2 long, of the genus Ceratothoa, which enter the mouth of a host fish and eat the tongue, replacing it with their own body. pm me I know their nasty little buggers but id be really appreciative if I even just get one. Thanks all. James
  4. Im a long time Manly supporter here on the penninsula, but thinking of jumping ship just because of how badly theyve treated Mick Monaghan, but then again, i dont think theres any other team i could go for. Nah, go the manly boys.

    Kelpie

Gday, Just thought Id ask cos you never know, Im looking to get a kelpie pup and wondered if anyone of the raiders or raiders friends and neighbours happens to have a Kelpie or Kelpie x bitch that their thinking of breeding from any time over the next 6 months or so, or is expecting or currently in pup? just thought id ask out of curiosity, cheers, much appreciated
  7. Drove a Navara when I was working out on a property out at Qurindi last year, now that vehicle was an 03 model I think, and it always used to lose power and shut down on itself whilst you were driving? I dunno why, Im no expert in mechanics but it had this problem continuously. All you had to do was stop, switch off the ignition and switch it on again and it would normally come good, but yeah, itd probably be more of a worry if you were driving on the road as I was mostly driving in the paddock it wasnt that big a problem. could probably be fixed easily by a mechanic but it wasnt taken to a mechanic whilst I was there. This could be a one off, one of the neighbours drove a Navara and said he wouldnt drive anything else, couldnt be more pleased with it.

    Rock Cale

Ahahahaha Thats the one Nathan, Ive only seen them snorkelling myself, demented crock is pretty right, theyve got that slow, a beer short of a six pack sort of swagger ahaha they sit on the weed bed and think if they stay real still you cant see them, you could just about catch them with your bare hands Apparently their different from a kelp fish? the Australian Museum Fish ID page shows that kelpfish are similar but quite a distinct species, theyve got a different "face", If you know what I mean, a pointier snout and the eyes are more on the sides of the head.

    Rock Cale

Anyone know if rock cale are any good for a feed? I was asked the other day if I could find out for one of my mates .They are plentiful in the sea around sydney, very abundant, but hes never seen or heard of anyone ever taking them nor has he ever taken one himself because he thinks that their probably not very good eating, could even be poisonous for all I know? so whats the verdict, anyone ever eaten rock cale out of curiosity? Theyd have to be better than frozen fish fingers right? for those who dont know these are those brown/black mottled fish that just sit on the weedbed in along rocky shorelines, some grow guite big too! I knew them as kelp fish before I was corrected, and have also heard them called rock cod, but they look nothing like a cod.

    Cremorne Wharf

As I got the ferry home on friday arvo it was going down, there were 2 blokes with a bilge pump trying to keep it afloat but you could tell they were fighting a losing battle, it was already half underwater.
  11. okay, ill see if i can make it down early saturday. ill probably try and get down about 6
  12. Yeah Southerly, love to, Ive got weekends and Friday mornings, apart from that pretty busy. sounds sensational. My kayak is a fairly cheap little sit in, one man, called a BASS. does the job though, real stable, though you wouldnt stand up in it, it gets a bit rough on the back after a hour or two but its a pretty good all round little boat.
  13. I headed down with my own kayak to balmoral this morning around 10. I started by trawling a squidgie flick bait through the moorings for a nice chopper, biggest ive caught. I was stoked. The on my way back the lure got smacked by something huge, peeling off line, im sure it musta been a kingy, broke the line after only a few seconds. Awesome morning though

    Byron Bay

heading up to byron bay tommorrow and interested has anyone been fishing up there? anyone know of any good landbased spots for flathead or bream, that sort of thing? places would have to be in walking distance of the town.
  15. In that case, you know what, I was lying, we didnt go barra fishing, we didnt even catch any fish. forget about it.
  16. Just got back from a trip with my dad to seven spirit bay up in arnhem land. fished every day and it was terriffic. Went deep water fishing for plentiful and sizeable golden snapper, a range of cod species, coral trout, queenfish, dad hooked a big gt but it broke him on the coral, and some real big catfish that go hard. In the estuaries we saw lots of big barramundi feeding and hooked up quite a few times but only landed a couple of small ones. It was my first time barramundi fishing and Im sure If I had had a bit of experience I could have landed some huge fish because those creeks were almost untouched, we saw noone else out fishing the whole week that we were there. real great place, its so isolated up there that the fish life is almost in its perfect state, not overfished of affected by poillution or anything. expensive but..
  17. I recall a yacht hitting a sunfish in the last sydney to hobart, the boat was out of action for the rest of the race and had to be towed back to shore. theyre seriously big creatures.
  18. I should be up there for december. Ive also got access to 2 kayaks and the place ill be living in is on lake street, bout a hundred metres from the lagoon, so you can probably count me in.
  19. over my last week of school I became familiar with these little cod liver oil capsules that people take for vitamin e and for extra brainpower and stuff.. I think Some of the blokes were punching holes in them and spraying them on peoples toothbrushes, waterbottles, doorhandles, beds(Im in a boarding house), anything was fair game. and the smell never comes out and it tastes awful. Anyway I got to thinking that it might be good to smere a bit on my sp's for a bit of scent. just wondering if anybodies ever tried this before?

    Carp....

Pretty quiet night, just managed to bag this one whilst no one was looking
  21. Sorry, I just read the first part of the post spanker, yep, I think saturdays right with me. Im not 18 yet though so what are they like up at the Great Northern, are they tight or easy going? I might have to bypass the pub and meet you blokes at the weir? Ill probably be driving anyways But just had a few questions about the carp, Ive never fished for em at night, I spose Ill need one of those glowstick floaters. But apart from that what kinda rig will I need to bring. When I fished for them before I just floated some dry bread crusts with a hook in it out on the surface and it worked a treat. That was in Manly Dam. Also... never beeen to the weir before, but dont live too far away, whats parking and stuff like, is it bushland there, or parkland or what?
  22. No worries, met an old bloke up at winney bay on the weekend, showed me how to tie the weed on the right way. Sorted. Whilst we were there, right over the outfall, he caught 8, myself-0. I only had one decent hookup the whole weekend, of which I probably spent about 6 hours fishing for blackies, and one of me knots failed. It just wasnt meant to be. but one other thing, a bit off topic, whilst I was down near Rosa Gully last week I noticed a few big lobsters in the rockpools and was tempted to grab a few, but these were sort of black mottly lobsters, not the seafood resteraunt kind. Can you take them or are they protected?
