Well done mate.Enjoy having less people out and about on the water.
Still plenty of boats out the carpark at grays point was full. No queue to get in or out so safe distancing.

Nice tailor I find they are better eating at that size. The reddies help make a good feed. The jackets were still cruising around on sat.

I went out on the hacking today for 4 hours.
lots of boats out. Fishing, sailing, jet sking.
wind picked up after 1pm and a quite a few started heading back in.
donut day for me, but had a few hook ups with fair sized fish - all lost on the surface. Either bitten off or not hooked well. Tailor, trevally and a couple of fish that looked like sea pike or coota. Approx 40cm Long slim with big teeth - darker on top lighter colour underneath - grabbed the bait as I was reeling in close to surface.
just couldn’t land anything today.
There were plenty of barrcoutta just off shelly beach on Friday they fit your description and no reason they wouldn't come inside the hacking

Fished inside Port Hacking yesterday morning. 10 km from home wouldn't get me very far into the ocean so stayed in the river, used fuel already in the boat and bait from the freezer so no interaction with anyone. First boat trip for a month. Have enough for few more trips yet.
Fished a few of my usual spots, few small reddies , the ones just under 30cm had me thinking I had dinner, couple undersized flathead and trevs all went back. Eventually came across school of yellow chinaman jackets, they weren't big but are quite tasty so kept a feed of them. Harvesting them might even save someone from losing rigs in the future.
Had a few short (2 hours) landbased blackfish trips to the Georges which is only couple km from home, walk in and have the spot to myself. Fish are patchy most days 2 or 3, other days a dozen or two. Fish the same tides just depends if a school is swimming past.

Thats an excellent fish Bruce and on 2kg would have given you some fun.
Yes I had a few anxious moments luckily there were a couple of other raiders who netted it so saved me losing concentrationon the fight.
Hope this covid clears up quickly, I have an important fishing trip the middle of Aug

Went down the river sat morning for 40 minutes to have a fish with my son and grandson Baxter. Baxter did the right thing and scored a 40 cm as reported in another post.
Today I went with 2 other grandsons, they scored a couple of fish but it was my day with a 43cm fish on 2kg. Weighed in at 1.09 kg, equal to the best I've caught in the Georges river.

A good day out Bruce, plenty for a feed and some sport.
Thanks Dave was good fun on the 2 kg outfit having last of the fillets for tea tonight. I have a spare rod if you feel the urge to catch something different. I have even caught them on handline once.

Last year I didn't do too good with blackfish in the Georges. This year seems better. Fished 2hrs to top of the of the tide and first 2 hrs of runnout. First 20 mins not a touch. Then a few small bites and a couple of 20cm fish. Another 10 mins and the bites were every drift, not a big run of fish but a steady stream put 1 or 2 in the keeper now and again releasing a lot of legal and undersized. Time to go home pulled in the keeper and found 10 fish, released 3 and took home 7 fish 30 to 33 cm. A very good result. The weed I was using 2-3 weeks old given to me at SW Rocks by fishraider "centrepin " thanks Geoff for the weed, it keeps very well.

You always come up with a feed. Good to know there are still a few legal reddies in the Hacking. The grandkids will be happy to catch them and the chinamen jackets in the school holidays.
I fished at SWRocks the long weekend for reasonable blackfish but only found 1 flathead in the river. Using this weather to do some painting, chase the fish next week.

There are still fish in the hacking larger baits for jews may restricted your catch of smaller fish. I fished near lilli pilli Monday morning didn't start till after 8 , 1am far too early for me. Kept 3 trevs 40 cm a good bream and 10 jackets. My son got a watsons bonito, a large longtom and a few other fish on Sunday.

I thought I had enough, but when Bruce (Hookerbruce) opened the door to his collection, I have nothing on his collection, my 15 or so rods nothing compared to his.
AND, the wife wants to know why so many rods, reels, hooks, sinkers, lures!
I could ask why she has so many golf clubs, but that would go down like a lead balloon.
Just saw this post. The rods you saw only tallied up at 48, then theres 5 blackfish rods and 3 beach rods under the house another 10 in the shed and half a doz up the coast. Why so many, when I take the grandsons fishing everyone has to have at least 1 rod of each type to use. 1 kg up to 15 kg depending on if we are chasing mullet or marlin or anything in between. Every rod has a reel and a lot have a spare spool for different line classes.

Well done, that is what I would call a good mornings work!
Interesting you mention work. Phil and I used to get out at least once a month, now I'm retired and Phil is semi retired we find it hard to find a day we can both go fishing, life gets in the way.

Very nice bag...how was the swell out there today? On Monday it was pumping and a fellow boatie lost his life running aground at Bundeena:(
The swell was still up a bit but was long and slow, it did stop us from anchoring in close to the rocks. The light nor wester made for a pleasant drift. Today the swell was quite low. I have heard his death may have been a medical episode, sure more details will come out.

Nothing wrong with that catch Bruce.
The surface action was quiet today, until a few fish kicked about in the Arm. They were not there for too long, but shows that some are still there.
Whiting still kicking around, though won't bite in the calm clear water.
Yes we got a couple of feeds so that was good. Saw a good number of whiting along the inside edge of the lilli pilli sandflat but didn't have nippers and it was time to go home
-
The weather was good and we avoided the early start. Nice tailor, whiting and overall bag of fish.

Went out in the river for a white this morning then outside with a mate Phil .
Left Grays point ramp at a pleasant 730 went down to the deeper water near Lilli Pilli fished with pillies and slimy fillets. Caught a lot of small reddies and one legal , also caught a few just legal trevally that went back and one good one that went in the esky.
About 930 went for a cruise around but didn't see any activity so headed out to chase some blue spot flatties. Fished several spots between 30 and 50 meters deep but never found a good spot. Ended up keeping 10 and a flounder. Threw lures around a few spots in the river for nothing and beaded home.

Left home at 3:50 this afternoon got back home at 5:20 pm. Had some green weed in the shed for a month, not very good but it worked. Fished Georges river for about an hour, the fish were there but the bites very timid. We kept 6 28cm plus, released a couple more legals and few small ones. Good weather and an encouraging start to the season.

You might have to go over to the dark side. I think you can get green weed in the ponds behind the breakwall at north haven

Bit late in replying, I'll have to do another hacking trip try and get a flattie haven't got a decent one for about a year. you have come up with the results again.

A nice pair of Flatties Bruce - great work on fly - a clouser?
Your asking a technical question, I think it is a white clouser. I have a good mate who ties flies and gives them to me, I just pick out something that looks good and throw that around. He wants me to take the fly rod to Weipa this year but I would rather take a real fishing rod.
(Thanks for the great flies Phil)

Friday 20 th aug went solo fished from Jibbon down to Marley. Had a couple of drifts for flathead plenty good size up near the hacking down near marley they were smaller.
Fished headlands and reefy areas for wrass and coutta sweep, got 2 good squid near the bommie and kept 10 flathead 42 - 52 cm.
Monday was a bit windy fished Georges 50 min no bites went home
Thursday fished Georges and the fish were there caught heaps kept first couple then started throwing back fish keeping a couple here and there. Ended up keeping 8 fish 30-37 cm. A quick trip on fri provided a couple of 39 cm fish plus plenty of throw backs. Luckily Georges river is only 3 klm from home and I can find a spot to myself.
