  1. Hi raiders, Im going for a session tomorrow. Have weed already. let me know if anyone is keen, or any suggestions on where to fish. I have tried quite a few places in the Georges over the past week with only a couple of fish so has been tough. Will be fishing the run up which high is around 1.30 PM me. Dave
  2. Tried both Lambeth and Illawong on Friday for zip. Locals were fishing said last week has been a little tougher.
  3. Hi Fellow raiders, I have a couple of weeks off work and was really hoping to go looking for some blackfish in the Georges. I was planning for tomorrow and then all of next week is free. Unfortunately I have a few spots but not sure if they are on the chew in those areas, so if there is someone out there that does Im all for it. Thanks Dave
  4. Hi Mate, Water is cold which will always make it more difficult for good results. Would suggest to fish as light as possible. Always use flurocarbon leader. Try live baits, IE worms or yabbies. Will outdo a deadbait anyday, thats just my experience. I usually fish the bay out of a boat so right up the river Im no good on the boating front. In the river I would suggest to fish ledges, or narrow parts of the river. Theory is fish travel through, if its narrow, you got more chance of your bait being investigated.
  5. Hey mate, thanks for sharing. I was at Maroubra having a late lunch on Sunday and a couple of guys where fishing on the left hand side storm water drain with cabbage and I saw them bag a few stonkers in about half an hour. No floats can be used here, lots of snags on the reef. For every fish was almost a loss of gear. Nelsons has been good from all reports. If the breakwall is quite you can try over Shoal Bay wharf. I find cabbage is the best up there. Does anyone know if they have come up as far as East Hill Bridge or the baths on the left hand side of the bridge. Ive caught them here before but it seems to be the luck of the draw and I dont really want to head out for a fruitful excercise. Ive also heard they fire in Chipping Norton Lakes from time to time. For some reason my usual haunts for weed have been tough, PM me with any suggestions. I live in Moorebank dont want to travel as far as Botany if possible. Was thinking about going for a fish tomorrow if anyone is interested, and any suggestions on where I should head. I also have a couple of weeks off work so if anyone is keen on a fish during the week for some company PM me. Cheers, Dave
  6. Where did you put your boat in...Murrays beach. Was there heaps of LBG's fishing off perpendicular point, usually is.
  7. Fellow raiders, Ive been fishing botany bay inside for years catching bream, whiting and the like. Im not new to fishing techinques and have various gear for all sorts of fishing as we head up and down the coast however for some reason have not headed outside botany bay really...? I would love for someone to share some in close GPS marks or even come along one day for a trip. Snapper would be ideal. I have a 20ft shark cat so that should be fine. If anyone is planning a trip outside one day (think this weekend is going to be a bit blowy but might pass through and Sunday might be good) I would be more than intersted in sharing some thoughts. Am also looking to join a club with a couple of mates around the Liverpool area. PM me for any advice or interests. Thanks Dave
  8. I would say to contact a trailer place like Sales at Penshurst, NSW or somewhere more local. I would say a safe bet would be 4 up the middle and two folding ones on the side for drive on/drive off
  9. Gunnumatta Bay is always a good spot. Berley up, fish with a handline and a small long shank hook with the bait on the tip.
  10. I would go something like a Shimano Beastmaster around the 10-15 with a 25.
  11. Hi Bud, Generally speaking, I would use a 6-10kg outfit for Kings inside the bay with say a penn slammer liveliner 560 or a 4500-6500 shimano baitrunner with about 30pd braid. Would use about 60pd trace. Use a double snell rig. The majority of kings you will catch inside the bay will be rats, or up to the 5kg mark from past experiences. I rarely ever get ones bigger, so I dont fish much heavier than this so that I can enjoy catching the fish that bite the most. Rod, reel, fins braid will probably set you back over the $300 mark, however half descent gear is important. If you prefer overheads, try a Shimano TLD15 or 20. Its just my opinion so no hard and fast rule. If you get bigger kings, this gear will struggle to do the job however and you would consider stuff like TLD25s with 50pd braid etc at the cheaper gear range.
  12. Penn Spinfisher 850 should do the trick and if you look around you can pick them up for $130. Hearty reel and can take a bit of bashing on rocks, surf etc.
  13. Hi Vinny, best bang for your buck under $300 is the Lawrance X50DS. Dual beam search and pretty good pixels. Yes, more expensive sounders are great and have much more pixels and depth read, however if you dont fish over 50 metres of water this will do the job with ease. If you fish in the rivers mainly, as you have indicated its a tinny so you dont head out to the peak or anything like that, the X50 will easily do a good job. I have one, did alot of research for sounders under 300, and all the stores said this was by far the best for under $300. Cheers
  14. Theres no hard and fast rule to how you should insure your boat, or who with for that matter. Im a sucker for agreed value for the fact that I get what I pay for should something happen. Most cases, its only about 10% more of the premium they would charge you anyway. But with a market value policy, you will generally find the payout figures they settle claims on are 20% less that what you beleive the market value is for. Quick calcs will show you will be in front. Insurance is there to put you in the same position you were at the time of loss. IE if you bought something for $20k, why should an Insurer pay $50k...? If they gave you $20k would you be out of pocket. Anyway, I would suggest to get a few quotes, and compare them as all Insurers will vary on the type of product they offer. There are many variables as to why one is dearer than the other. Look for: Sum Insured - Agreed Value or Market Value and conditions of Agreed Value Benefits included in the coverage and to what limits Excesses applicable Extras you can take out on a policy and at what cost. Eg. Skiiers Liability. If you dont tow skiiers, why pay for the extra cover. Hope this helps a little. Best to chat to the Insurers, I mean...thats what you pay them for right
  15. Hi Guys, Boat Insurance, in comparison, is relatively cheap insurance cover. Trust me, I know...I do it for a living. Personal preference I would use Club Marine. Might not be the cheapest, but with insurance, you get what you pay for. I hear stories everyday about claims not being paid, why...cause the cheaper option is exactly that, a cover that is cheaper...why...cause its cheaper for a reason. Agreed value. it takes one Saturday to drive your boat to an approved certified valuer. Will cost you anywhere between $50-$100 but at least your baot is covered for what its worth...NO DISPUTES. Most boat dealers have the facilities to provide a valuation that is approved by most insurers. Why not pay it as a one off. I mean, if you can afford to run a boat, surely you can spare a little extra cash, to have a claim payment settled that will in return keep you satisfied. Anyway, theres so much to insurance that would take hours to type up. My opinion, get an agreed value, that way you cant complain.
  16. Mate, I would say outside the bay. I fish the bay constantly and NEVER get snapper or legal pinkies. Would be just outside on the right hand side I would say.
  17. I never used to think much of fishing for blackies, but once I caught a few, using the techniques etc associated with catching one, rod bending while they duck for the rocks, couldnt be more fun. I dont fish for them on a large scale by any means, but when they are on, its not uncommon to catch hoards in a 2-3hr session. Hope you enjoy!
  18. Depends what your targeting bud. I agree that the older rods are tougher and made to last. I have a couple of hand me down 12fts. yes they are a little heavier to hold but boy they do the job. Again it depends on what your fishing for. I think 30pd mono is overkill unless hunting big jews. I would stick with 10-16pd mono and would fish a paternoster on a star or jinker. if you want bream/whiting, try fishing a lighter trace say 8pd on a single hook with worms etc. For bigger fish, nothing wrong with gangs for whole pillies, or snelled 2 hooks for whole squids or slab baits. Obviously if your fishing whole baits, use a heavier trace prob about 50pd fluro. Hope it helps.
  19. Tan the man, Gansel is located at Milperra, NSW. They mainly distrubute Mustad hooks etc to most major outlets, and their Force Ten brand. They have some good cheap buys and you always pay less here for hooks etc. As far as rods go, cant say but whenever I have gone there have not considered the rods. Hope you didnt pay too much for the rod, Im sure Gansel would sell it for under $50 new.
  20. Animals. Some people think the waterways and its surrounds are a rubbish tip. Hate to think what their condition of their homes are like!
  21. Hi Mate, no one has posted anything up so I thought I would try and help. Havent fished LC for a long time, but there was plenty of flathead about when I was there. The usual baits should work on the drift. Find yourself some nice weedbeds through patches of sand and you should be right. Also, beaches should be holding lots of Salmon. Ive heard lots of reports the Salmon are around mid south coast. Try pillies on gang hooks off the beach if you find some gutters on a rising tide.
  22. Hey Big Dog, thanks for that. Funny enough I had a look at the 420s this morning on Bias Boating. I think it was retailing for around the $800 mark without the transducer. Also these do not come with Australian maps I have learnt. Like all computer software, you can copy across to another computer etc. Is this the same with the maps. IE say someone has the 420c and they have already bought the map, can i use it on mine if I purchased one...? The maps sell for like $380.
  23. Kingy on the bbq with a squeeze of lemon.
