  1. for more info about boating on Newyears eve visit the official website, and take note of the rules. http://www.sydneynewyearseve.com/boating/
  2. Have caught both species of fish in the harbour , so there there both been caught around 20-30 meters of water , the big eye is a tasty fish .
  3. If possible take it out on the water for a good solid run.
  4. we fished the peak on sunday and on the way back in we came across several patches of those tiny bait fish, there were some big fish busting up in between looked like stripeys, didnt have any small lures to cast at them so had a go with throwing a livie towards them and throwing unweighted pillchard but nothing would have a go. iv heard the saying "match the hatch" but what they were feeding on were tiny. what other meathods would you recommend trying when coming across somthing like this? maby trol some deep divers around the area? or cast metal lures at them?
  5. looks like a Red Rock Cod (Scorpaena cardinalis) aka poor mans lobster. not a stonefish
  6. mate, you dont have anything to worry about, 30 seconds on idle with no water pumping wouldnt be anywhere near long enough to overheat the outboard to a point where you would have damaged it. if in doubt though, get it checked out at a qualified Marine mechanic.
  7. just got back from overseas, did some fishing but wasnt very productive, although we caught a few of these fish, this fish was salted and grilled and it tasted fantastic (im not a big fish eater) just wondering if anyone has an idea of the name of this fish, its head is a bit like a trag jew and has sharp teeth with a body like a mullet. thanks!
  8. they may aswell hook up an electric reel to a rod, attach a line dancer, stick it in a rod holder, and sit back with a supersize coke and a few pizzas/Burgers when fishing!
  9. how long till the GT's get down here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. been fishing useing a 6m fishing pole since i was about 7 years old, 27 now and the older style fibreglass poles weigh a tonne compared to the latest carbon-graphite japanese fishing poles. i bought one from an overseas trip about 4 years ago, but unfortunately something big and powerful (pelagic) hooked onto the end of the line and snapped the rod in half... those unfamilier with this style of fishing, Basically its a 6m+ long fishing pole with eaqule length of fishing line, with a float splitshot and 2 hooks.... No reel, just the flexibality of the rod and strength of your line. been looking all over the internet and have ring a few reputable tackleshops, but Noone stocks the high quality carbon graphite poles, only the elcheapo fibreglass types. anyone know of a place that has them or can order them? please send a pm with details thanks!
  11. FYI if you want to log on and log off with marine rescue, you should be registered with either the coastal patrol or coastguard ( which have now merged since i got my membership) with this they issue you with a callsign, that callsign relates to all the information you provide eg; type of boat, brand, brand of outboard, size and colour of boat, emergency contact information etc etc. so once you call to log on and log off, you call using your callsign they automatically know who you are and what boat your in, all you need do then is tell them how many persons onboard, destination and eta. saves alot of time and keeps the radio free for emergency situations. ps: dont forget to log off with marine rescue!
  12. what about the pyrmont bay wharf? do you need a booking to use that? which wharfs around darling harbour and pyrmont are puublic access wharfs?
  13. thanks for that explination. i will look at getting the impellor changed before it causes me alot of damage. hopefully a new impellor will sort the problem out thanks for all the input really appreciate it.
  14. changing the impellor is not an issue for me, what confuses me is why its not pumping enough cold water into the engine, when the boat is in neutural, but as soon as i manually raise the revs a little the water comes out normally and does not heat up, and when its clicked into gear (no throttle) it does the same thing, but when a small amount of throttle is applied the water comes out normally and does not heat. how many rpm should a outboard sit on idle? like i said before it happend a while ago then it worked fine then its happening again, maby i have changed the idle setting which is a push in style(like the old chokes) where the key goes in? i will check with the dealer i bought the boat from to see if the impellor was changed prior to having it fitted to my boat.
  15. hi Huey, i purchased the motor with about 14 hours on it, it was a trade in, as the previous owner of the outboard wanted a 4 stroke as he was an elderly man. so, im guessing it is the original impeller. the motor has not done much work since i have owned the outboard im guessing 40 hours. all of which has been in deep water, and never taken onto a beach. after every outing, i flush the motor, and same thing happens, sometimes the water just dribbles, then when i put the rev lever up the water comes out properly and runs cool. i always thought that if the impeller was broken, then NO water would run through the cooling system
  16. i had a feeling its got something to do with the low rpm. i just did a quick search on the tohatsu website and found out that the TLDI direct injection model outboards have a user adjustable idle speed system, "By pressing in on the key switch, you are able to adjust the idle from 700 to 900 RPM’s while you are using your outboard. Our TLDI® system will even remember the last setting and use this speed the next time you use your motor i may have pressed this causing the outboard to idle low, i will hook up the flusher this afternoon and check these settings and report back with the idle reading and if that solved the problem. thanks everyone
  17. just a quick question, i have a 2003 tohatsu tldi 50hp outboard on my boat. a few months back i realised that when my boat was in neutral or on very low idle, the water stream was not continious and was dribbeling, causing the motor to run hotter than normal, causing the heating alarm to go off, but once i manually raise the idle leaver in neutural or when i put the motor into gear and drive at revs higher than idle, the water stream coming out of the motor is continious and strong. after a few outings, this stopped happening and in idle the water would come out continiously, untill this weekend, same thing started happening, in neutural dribble dribble, but when driving and revs up, the water would come out with no issues. is this an sign that the impellor needs changing? thanks in advance!
  18. ahhhhhh, they were all over my rods when they were up in the rocket launcher. i thought it was the lack of use because the rods have been sitting in the garage for the past few months! i was outside sydney harbour when i noticed this also.

    Eiectrollis

firstly, make sure you have a good earth on your boat, if you dont, thats when electrolysis occurs. secondly, If you need to attach any Stainless steel parts eg: rod holders, rocket launchers, then make sure you have a rubber gasket between the alloy and stainless steel.

    Vhf Help Wanted

to chick this, there should be a colour identifier on the base or the whip. red= 27 mhz Green= vhf your radio could just be faulty, return it to where you bought it from, and maby have them test it, or exchange it for another one. that way you can isolate the problem and see what the cause is

i have a 4.8M stacer baymaster,(aluminium) have take it to the peak, fished outside port haching a fair few times, couple of times in 2m swell. just have to take your time and read the waves. i also am registered with the marine rescue and log on/off with them anytime i fish outside the heads. also have an epirb onboard dont forget all the other gear flares/v sheet/2L or water per person/maps of area that you also need when you head offshore
  22. i heard a story a while back, that about 20 years ago, a fisheries officer was killed and chopped up, at the hot water outlet in the central coast. has anyone else heard about that story? iv did a google search but did not find anything regarding that incicent, maby because it was soo long ago. but has anyone else heard about that story/rumor?
