Great write-up mate & well done!!
-
Good effort!
My in-laws live down that way & I've fished the lake fair few times from boat & land.... Haven't had great success, only few flatties & tailor on plastics...
Being such a BIG lake with a decent entrance, i'm suprised it doesnt fish better.... (Edit: maybe it does fish well & i'm crap at fishing )
-
Stick to the edges.... I find there's alot of baren areas down the middle of Pittwater, especially if there's alot of boating activity (there's usually heaps of sail boats/yachts out on weekends!)
Drifting between the boats at Careel Bay usually produces a few good flatties....
-
They were also in Careel Bay a week ago.....
-
Great work!
We were up in Careel Bay the Friday before... There was a strong NE wind blowing across Pitwatter and we struggled to boat any fish! (few pinkies, bream & 1x flattie... all small

Nice work! I bought my first little popper recently & hoping to christen it during the holidays....
-
+1
Also, since your boat has high sides (& cabin) it will catch alot of wind, making it hard for the electric to do it's job....
-
Some great advice here!
My tip would be to target a particular species... Flatties are probably the easiest to start...
Few of my tips;
- Fish areas where they are likely to hide (i.e. sandy / weedy areas),
- Fish the tides (runout is good start)
- And use tried & tested SP's (i.e. 70-100mm Fish or Wrigglers generlly do well on flatties);
- Cover the area well (if u dont get hits in say 15mins, start moving around the area until you do...);
- And lastly, post up the report / pic of your fish on Fishraider!
Good luck!

I've just picked up a T-Curve 3-5kg travel rod (3pc)& planning to mount my 2500 Stradic Ci4 on it...
Heading up to Sunshine Coast this weekend so will hopefully get away for a flick and maybe even hit-up the barra farm :-)
-
Did a Sat Arvo & Sunday Moring session on the weekend. We flicked SP's for hours and only boated a few average flatties & chopper tailor...
It was very windy on Saturday & stupid me left the foot control for electric at home!
Probably wound be heading back until the dredging is finished... (anyone know when this will be???);
-
Will be taking the boat up there this weekend for a couple SP sessions... Hopefully the flatties come out to play

I've got a 40hp on my 4.2 Dory... bit rear heavy but goes great when the boat is loaded up!.... would love electric tilt/trim on it though.
The previous owner purchased it new with a 30hp, then upgraded few months later to the 40hp....
-
Thanks for the replies, ended up getting it .... Very happy 😄
Congrats mate!... I've got a 40hp on a 4.2Dory... It is a bit rear heavy (if fishing alone) but i usually fish with 2 or 3 aboard so it evens weight out! You will be glad you went the 40 when the boat is fully loaded!
-
A 4.2m will be big enough for most harbour spots. However your current 25hp may bit bit undergunned on a 4.2m (esp. if you want 3+ people & gear);
I reckon a 4.5m+ (and 40hp+) would be ideal...

I'm looking for a new car at the moment with a budget of around $50K... narrowed it down to either the new Jeep GC or Subaru Forester Turbo;
Test drove the new Jeep Grand Cherokee 2weeks ago (albeit the V6 version)...I was very impressed with the car! For the money (~$50k)you get a lot of standard equipment, comfort, towing power & off-road capability... the only concern i have is the reliability, running costs (especially being 1st of new shape) & resale... I've heard alot of bad reports (granted mostly hear-say) and good ones too...The diesel version is supposedly selling well & i've heard theres a few month wait for the diesel & Overland models)...
Plus, I read somewhere that it was awarded 4x4 of the year last year???
(Here's comprehensive review of the JGC:- http://www.caradvice.com.au/131846/jeep-grand-cherokee-diesel-review/#review-review-tab)
Last week I test drove the Forester (XT/S-Edition) and although it's not a great looking vehicle, i think it will be the safer bet (for my needs)...
What other cars are on your list?

Yep.54lb definitely wont be enough for your boat....

Hi guys!
I noticed the other day my bearing buddy fell off. Without too much thought I replaced it. Two days later it fell off. Tried one more time, didn't last a day.
When I put them in, they are tightly fit. There is no movement yet when I drive they seem to fall off. I never placed the original ones. My friend seems to think the problem is with the hub. So before I go and replace both hubs and bearings, any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks
Hi Mate;
After all the responses, did you find a solution that worked? (I've got the same problem atm, lost 2x in the last 2x outings..... )
Cheers,
Alex.

Fishing sunnies are over rated I think... Just get any that are polarized.
I agree, any polarised pair will work....
Shop around to find a pair of sunnies that you like and ask if they come in a polarised version (will generally cost a little bit more than normal lenses)...

Hi. No experience with the TDV8, but we've had 5x TDV6's at work (3x2006 & 2x2009 models)...they are very comfy and awesome looking cars, however VERY expensive to service & maintain... One of them went through 2x sets of discs & pads within 70,000kms
The boss often uses his one to tow a 20ft glass boat to Lake Mac with no issues...

Great read & awesome photos mate!
Marlin out of a 4.5trailer boat is just fantastic! It's pretty much the pinnacle of fishing....you may as well give it all away now
-
Nice! I'm hoping to get out sometime this weekend.... First time in weeks!!!
-
Nice work!
Good to see there's still fish about after the annual hammering it gets over the school holidays.....
-
nice work!
We did a session in Pittwater last Friday and it was VERY tough going..only mangaged a couple flatties & few squid...
-
Use Soft Plastics on an afternoon run-out tide..... ;-)
When does a used boat get too old?

Agreed, most of the depreciation would have occured in the first 1-4yrs and i'd consider a 2005/6 aluminium boat fairly new.... If the boat & motor are in good nick (and you keep it that way), it shouldn't depreiciate too much!
