  1. Nice write up Rick!

    Pretty much covered it all...flatties are generally reliable & great fun to catch when you know how!

    Only other thing I'd add is to learn where the flatties live...(i.e. near sandy/weedy patches, drop-offs etc.), also I find it's best where there's tidal movement (i prefer the runout tide)...

    Anyways, I'm about to finish work, load-up the boat, pick-up mates & headup the coast for a weekend chasing flatties!!! Enjoy!

    Alex.

  2. Hi ray. Fiona and i are going up to the entrance on thursday arvo till sunday morning hope to bag a couple cheers stephen

    Hi. Do you mind posting up how you go at the Entrance? (we are heading up there next weekend to chase some flatties on plastics... hopefully there's a few about chasing the prawns!!! :biggrin2: );

    Cheers, Alex.

  3. We've recently started getting into vibes... caught a fair few flatties on them by simply lift & bounce off (or near) the bottom....

    Make sure u have a set of long pliers handy to get the trebles out, esp when a flattie scoffs it down deep!....Also, if just targeting flatties, maybe up your leader strength so there's less chance of losing your $15 lure!

    One last thing, maybe get couple different size vibes - to suit the depth you are fishing in.

    Have fun... :1fishing1:

  4. I've got an '09 VE (SV6) and racked up about 50K's since new... so far i cant fault it.

    Only problem i've had is a bad batch of fuel causing the timing to be out (error msg on dash)and gone through a set of tyres (maybe my driving style...lol);

    My previous cars were 4cyl and this is my first large car... the SV6 has a few blind spots, namely big A pillar and the rear spoiler (sedan) blocks almost everything out the back window (makes it difficult to reverse a low empty boat trailer); I'm averaging 10.5-12L/100K's.

    Other than that, it's been a comfy crusier & tows my boat really well... :biggrin2:

  5. Nice! We will be fishing there Sat arvo & Sun morning sessions, mainly targeting flatties on SP's. :yahoo:

    Depending where you fish, there are good numbers of flatties about this time of year....

    Good luck & please post up how you go....

    Cheers,

    Alex.

  6. If its just for the finder, just get a 12V 7AH sealed battery, available alot of large Auto or Marine Accessory places. I bought one recently ("Century Brand") for about $30-40. I'm currently using this in my 4.2 tinny to run nav lights, finder & a deck light.

    thmps1270s1.th.jpg

    Smaller & easier to handle than car battery...

  7. Just bought my first boat and 1st time out, forgot to trim up the motor at the ramp when launching..... smacked the motor's bottom fin onto the concrete ramp! Doh! ..... needless to say, i havnt done it since! :1prop:

  8. For $17K i'd be looking for something much better than a Dory!

    I've got a 4.2 Dory and i have no doubt it will handle the Bay (i usually fish Harbour / Pittwater with 2 or 3 people onboard), but my budget was half yours!.... I'd recommend something 4.5-4.8m range, with a fairly new 50-70Hp outboard... maybe a 2nd hand "Coastrunner" or similar? (depending on the setup you want); You'd feel pretty safe in a boat that size and its not too big to handle for a first boat!

    Happy boat hunting!

    Alex.

  9. Went down about 2weeks ago for an arvo session with a mate... spent 2+ hours flicking plastics all over the lake - with not even a touch, then came up trumps with this lovely 77cm lady;

    also picked up a few other mid-40 ones...

    good luck.

    Alex.

  10. Looked like a perfect day out with loads of fish Alex! Great markings on the big girl too! Top stuff all round.If you don't mind sharing some secrets, what sort of plastics were getting fish and what depths were you fishing?

    Cheers;

    Just usual flattie techniques...fish the drop offs and "sandy/weed" patches, anything from 1-3m deep. Squidgies between 70-100mm work best... :thumbup:

    I agree - there are heaps of "weekend warriors" up there fishing off the banks - i'd hate to be a fish anywhere in casting distance! :mad3: Fisheries should do random checks up there in school holidays.... :ranting2:

  11. Hi All;

    Well with the recent good weather (finally!!); rounded up a couple mates & headed up early for a day trip up to The Entrance, to chase some flatties on plastics.

    Between 3of us we boated about 30flatties, most around 45-50cm and best going 74cm (which was released). All were released except a couple taken for dinner! :yahoo:

    Some pics;

    Very relaxing day and back to Sydney by dinner time, so the :wife: was happy.

    Alex.

  12. Boat or land based?

    If land based you can walk through the bush out onto Callala beach from there you can head up to the mouth of the creek.

    I've never fished there but i know there is a sand bar and channel, i'd bet my bottom dollar there would be flathead and whiting there on the flats and drop off.

    Spent the weekend at JB, but had too many :beersmile: to go fising on Sat... was going to try sunday arvo but the wind picked up.... I eyed out a few "fishy" looking spots, but didnt see many people fishing. Would it be worth towing my tinny down next time?

    Was reccommended to checkout the fish pond at "Lady Denman Maritime Museum" at Huskisson . OMG they had stocked the pond full of bream, snapper, blackfish, flatties, flounder etc... most bream were 45cm+ and many flatties looked like upto the magic 1m mark, some sitting in less than 1ft water :1yikes: ... I'd highly reccommend to check it out if you're ever down that way!

    I have iphone pics which will post up later....

  13. Hi All;

    I'm heading down to Myola (South Coast) on the weekend. Has anyone has fished the Currumbene Creek, which runs off Jervis Bay, near Huskisson? Wondering if its worth bringing my plastics for a flick....

    If not, can anyone suggest anywhere nearby worth trying for flatties? :1fishing1:

    (Ps. i know there's a heap of Sancturary No Fish Zones around there.....)

    Cheers,

    Alex.
