Been here long enough i guess, so i should post a pic of my little beast... (Thanks to gongfisho - Ben for the photo !!)
  4. I just find it relaxing... Doesn't matter if i'm with my girlfriend, with mates or by myself - it's a matter of kicking back, having a few quiet beers and enjoying the serenity. Catching a good fish or three is a bonus and obviously a day catching fish is better than getting nothing, but it's all about being on the water for me... Seems like my worries and stresses about work, life etc just fade away when i'm on the water... And besides, fishing is one of the most fun things you can do with clothes on... Cheers, Paul...
  5. I probably take my missus (ok, girlfriend as we aren't married) with me 4 out of 5 times. My mates are whiney arsed sooks who get the shits if they aren't catching anything in the first hour or so, whereas the missus wants to keep fishing even after i'm ready to go home !! She makes the best chicken sangas, fills the esky with beer and ice, and always grabs some lamingtons for me as well. She also does all her own baiting, rigs and tackles the fish she catches without any dramas... Hmmm, she sounds like a great girl. I knew there was a reason i picked her... Cheers, Paul...
  6. I dream of landing a jewie or two like that, well done mate !!
  7. Great report mate, can't wait to get my new boat so i can go outside... Cheers, Paul...

    Mustang 1600

Thanks guys - unfortunately it pissed down raining this afternoon so the planned test drive was aborted. Maybe later in the week i guess... My second inspection was probably conducted through slightly less rose coloured glasses and i have to admit i noticed a few more little things that needed doing - just general tidying up stuff really. Has anyone polished fibreglass ?? The boat looked a bit "chalky" and the owner admitted since being booted out by his wife the boat had sat outside in the weather for the last few months. I'm hoping a good polish will bring it up to scratch. It also lacks a bowrail - no big deal but it looks kinda funny without one... Martin, thanks for the heads up mate but 40hp is a bit less than i'm after. I'm mainly wanting it for fishing but also to drag a few mates kids around behind on a tube etc in summer... P.S - I'm going to offer the bloke 10k cash as that's what i'll have in my pocket. If the boat is in reasonable condition am i getting a good buy ?? Cheers, Paul...

    Mustang 1600

What, no replies ?? This is a first, you blokes are normally a fountain of info !! Ahhh well, i'm getting a mate who was a marine mechanic to check it out today, and hopefully take her for a run later this afternoon. All going well i should own it in the next few days...
  13. I'm flying solo and heading out for Flint and Steel about 5am Saturday morning - yeah, in about 6 hours !! Hopefully the wind isn't too bad, otherwise i'll be fishing somewhere a bit more protected... Mr Jewfish, i'm looking for you....

    Mustang 1600

Hi all, Anyone know much about Mustang Boats ?? I'm looking at a 1992 model Mustang 1600 half cab powered by a 1997 Evinrude 70hp engine. The guy is asking $12,500, hopefully i'll get it a bit cheaper... Does anyone here have something similar ?? Are they a good boat, and is the 70hp enough to push it along at a reasonable speed ?? I'm still relatively new to boats, any advice would be appreciated... Cheers, Paul...
  15. Thanks guys, i didn't realise a few more of you had posted !! I got my new rod yesterday (a couple of weeks early, yay !!) and ended up with a Pflueger overhead combo. The rod is 6'6" and reel is a overhead G30. The fella at the aforementioned shop was great and did a great price so i'm happy - the next silly question is if i'm hunting jewies what kind of line (weight and brands ??) should i be using ?? Cheers, Paul...
  16. Unless it's a monster boat a 2WD Hilux will do the job just fine... Try getting a mid '97 onwards model though, they have the more powerful 2.7 ltr engine rather than the old 2.4... I have a dedicated race car (circuit Mazda RX-7) which we tow with a '02 2.7 2WD Hilux - the car weighs 960kgs and the trailer about 450kgs. We then throw tools, jacks, compressor etc in the back, and the Lux handles it with ease... As a matter of fact, if i didn't want a 4WD for camping etc i'd happily hold on to the Lux forever. 4cyl economy and the towing power of a decent 6cyl - they look great with a nice set of wheels too... Actually the 2.7 Hilux is rated to 1800kg according to Toyota... Cheers, Paul...
  17. Joe, it was down on The Horsley Drive - was that who you were thinking ?? They seemed pretty switched on i must admit... Thanks for the tip, i'll check...
  18. After my recent experience with a monster jew at Flint and Steel i've decided i really need to chase these suckers !! I was using an old (ie - 20 year old !!) Ugly Stick with a Daiwa egg beater. My girlfriend has claimed that one as she's no longer happy "just" fishing light for bream and flatties... The upside is she says she'll buy me a new rod and reel for my birthday, so what should i go for ?? The guy at my local place recommended a nice 7ft Ugly Stick and a large Penn egg beater. They have a 25% off sale until Sunday so i'm looking at $270 for both, he'll whack some line in for that price too... Any recommendations ?? Does this sound like a good set up ?? My old Ugly Stick is about 6ft and considerably thicker than the one that was recommended... Any advice appreciated, thanks guys... Cheers, Paul...
