    tow vehicle

anyone had a look at the Great Wall X240 Diesel or v200 Dual Cab Diesel ? We're still looking for something above the 1600kg towing cap which wont break the bank, and also these are only a 2ltr Diesel, they are listed with 1700kg brake and 2000kg brake towing.... Am going to be doing a lot of google searches, but thought there may be more knowledge in here about their towing abilities.
  2. lol, i think I'm going to get make up a Idiot's Checklist for myself, and have the Wife Laminate it (waterproof it), so i have a list to check before i leave the house, and before we dunk the boat.. 1. Bungs in 2. Boat keys 3. Petrol 4. Rods & Reels 5. Tackle 6. fresh water 7. . 8. . i am sure to hit every one of them at some point......
  3. thankfully my traces are all black and most of my swivels.....thanks for the responses guys, just 24hr before i get to go feed the fish, and maybe bring a few home...... almost forgot, i threw a small red bead onto 2 of the setups to see how it affects the fish, as a lot of people seem to be moving to using the red bead attracters......maybe helps at night as they may reflect small glints like the eyes of the bait....
  4. just updating, i popped into chatswood tackle and picked up his last Finger Guard(s), it has 2 in the packet, one thumb and one index finger.....they are leather bottom, with a stretch material over the top of the finger......now curious how well it will work for me.... He also explained to me the biggest issue i have is that the tackle weight is causing my casting issue as i am still prone to the side cast, and yet to find my overhead casting ability.....he said with the side cast its hard to control the cast release if the sinker and bait are of a decent weight.... i also grabbed a few 1/2 kilo pillie bags, they are in vacuum sealed bags which is a great way to keep them fresh...... i just hope nobody here at work opens up the freezer today...lol
  5. Will give it a shot next week for sure just to see how it goes, i love trying out places that dont get much attention, then again they dont get attention for a reason...lol its all about the challenge... ;-)
  6. i just spent a hour hours last night pre gearing my tackle and will see how they all go, i have done a few different setup, but all similar in setup for night time tailor... 1. swivel to swivel with 30cm 20lb mono, with running float and sinker in this line, then a 15cm 30lb black wire trace to 3 3/0 gangs 2. swivel to swivel with 30cm 20lb mono, with running float and sinker in this line, then 30cm 20lb mono to 3 x 3/0 gangs 3. swivel to Snap swivel with 45cm 20lb mono with running float on this line, with star Sinker to bottom Snap swivel...then 30cm 20lb mono to 3 2/0 gangs 4. swivel to swivel with 30cm 20lb mono, with running float and sinker in this line, then 45cm black wire trace to 3 x 4/0 gangs All the same, just differing lengths, trace changes, sinker swap and how hooks connected.... I also have a few Surf Rig setups, which are basically Pasternoster rigs, a few from 30lb line, and 2 that are wire setups to connect hooks and sinker too, might try them out...... once i get my casting worked out, i shall be a happier amatuer fisherman.....or at least a content fish feeder...
  7. i am pressing/holding it against the rod with my index finger, which i have no issues with using my smaller rods and lighter tackle, but the heavier gear and dare i say it water/moisture on my finger just seems to throw the whole pressure and grip out the window.... which was why i had thought a finger guard or finger glove may help hold the line better against the rod.... what is the hook hold your referring too ?
  8. thanks heaps guys, i will head down to the tackle shop tomorrow and see how i go, i appreciated the info and help.....
  9. I have found on the odd website in the past comments about line gripping things that you can slip onto your index finger to help with casting heavy sinkers etc, and wondered if anyone could shed more light on this, and where i can get or make something along those lines.... ( i cant find the sites again yet.. lol) I have only recently moved from estuary fishing with 6' to 7' rods to my new 12' rod and 20lb line targetting tailor and bigger fish, but whenever i cast i cant seem to control the line very well under my index finger during the cast, either i dont have it squeezed well enough etc. i have thought of wandering through bunnings in search of something rubber like that would fit my index finger with being loose and fly off during a cast.... any help ?
  10. hey guys, just a quick question reagrding setup for night fishing for tailor, i have most of the gear required, but am curious if what setup to stick with. I was originally setting up with a Float stopping swivel down 30cm so to a running sinker, with a 2nd swivel attached to a trace onto 3/0 gang hooks...using pillies... but i have noticed and been told by a few avid fishos (who catch way more than I), that it would be better to remove the trace, and use another 30-50cm length of mono, as the trace can turn the fish away from the bait.... i have started trying this out, but am using a heavier line to replace the trace......my reel is spooled with 14lb mono, and the last section (trace section) i was using a 20lb mono.... is this the right way to go, or should i just use the same line as i have spooled ?
  11. Swansea in search of the elusive king tailor.....altho i get the feeling they he hibernates until spring time.... ;-)
  12. Hopefully will be spending a full days fishing around there next week, let me know how you go between now and then, i am looking forward to it... Not to steal thread, but in regards to nth nara, what is the little beach nth of nth nara like for fishing, Lakes Park beach or something i think it is......have been curious whenever i get to nth nara, but have yet to try it out.... i havent hooked a jewie up there yet, only from the hawkebury.....but i will keep on trying... ;-)
  13. around to the left of the main buildings is the little beach called Stingray bay i think, and you can use the small 2man catermarans free of charge, we had a ball on them. I remember thinking to myself geez what i would do for a few handlines and some bait right about now..... you can also grab the surf ski's and paddle across to the small island for a picnic........lots of places over there too or hire the jet ski's and an hour and try ytou luck trolling out deep...hahaha now that would be a story.....
  14. thanks guys, will see about replacing them, but will be keeping my big reel spooled with my 20lb line for my plans of bigger fish and pillies on gangs..hehe oh yeah and its fireline mono..... i had heard braid tangles up a lot, so i didnt want to get into that trouble whilst still working out how to cast my new 12ft shinamo with 20lb line and pillies..... i still dont get too far with my casts, seem to either catch the line with my finger(s) on release or i hold on a fraction too much and flick bait into different location than sinker......hehehehe so will wait b4 i venture intobraid territory..... its the weight that i have issues with, dropped size 4 sinker and single hook on last week for smaller fish session and was getting decent casts...
  15. my reason for beach fishing during the day also, but i didnt fare too well......maybe next time......might start earlier also...before sunrise..(brrrr)
  16. hey all, you may find this one unusual, or as i am guessing just tell me to offload it and buy new line... but i was curious as I have 2 or 3 reels that i havent used in a long while, so i have forgotten just what the strength of the line is on these reels. Is there any way/ideas on working this out, reason is, i have a decent sized beach/rock reel with 20lb line on it, and am wanting to take a 2nd reel with me with light line in the event the beach fishng isnt getting anything on the heavy line with pillies, and could change to the light reel and try for a few whiting.... basically i want to at least catch a few fishies during a mornings beach fishing......am getting a tad tired of no fish to boast about and take home.... i am guessing my 20lb line will not serve me too well in the attempt to catch whiting, is it that it scares them away ?
  17. nice work, was this a daytime fish, nth or sth long reef, i was there last week at the nth end near the river section and didnt have any luck.....i must just be a bad/inexperienced fisho...hehe
  18. i wouldnt mind some info on a few nice places like this, spent all morning ay clarkes pt on saturday and was lucky enough to at least feed a few fish, nothing more......at least i had a great mornings view of the city and the bridge......
  19. without asking for actual levels or locations, i can honestly tell you that my sister in law works for the NSW fisheries and her main role is testing the toxin levels in all corners of our state. Basically she will not eat any Saltwater Fish full stop, she will on the other hand each fresh water fish. edit: they test the waterway toxidicy levels by the levels found in the Fish. but this still never phases me, if they were at levels that could cause major sicknesses and ling term illness, not only would she constantly be lecturing me on my avid fishing, but its her department that is responsible for alerting and placing public bans etc...... you would know....
  20. Hi to another newbie, dont forget also, a lot of the guys in the forums meet up and go fishing together as it can be more fun and also a learning experience to fish with someone else who has a passion for fishing, and being deaf will certainly not hinder you in this aspect..... next time your on a houseboat fishing, make sure you take 1 or 2 Burley buckets and logs of burley.....dropping anchor in a nice cove, dropping in 2 slow release burley buckets and then a few lines and have a few beers... ;-) last time i took the family on the hawkesbury houseboating, with my burley buckets in place, i was literally scooping live bait out of the water......
  21. what is wrong with that area, should i not consider it a safe place to fish ?
  22. sounds like lots of fun......i have only ever tried to fish the spit bridge once b4, and i did it from the boat shed side, are there better areas to throw a line on the bridge, if i try out the nth side of the bridge where do u park and how do you get to the water, always looks like houses and lots of trees on that side
  23. thanks for that, i might see about the rocks to the right or around at bradleys head, once i find my fishing groove (more experience and understanding) i will look at Plastics etc, but taking it one trip at a time..
  24. hey guys, just thought i would ask before i spend a day feeding little fish or waiting on my bait to come back to life......i know that clifton gardens is a common fishing location (50 or 60 people at any given time hehe), but it seems most people are using live bait, i.e. yakka's at this location... I'm just starting out using larger rods and going for taylor etc, so it this location ok to play with gang hooks and pillies, any tips ? should i use a float during tha day , or just keep these for nighttime thanks, Rexxy.
  25. hey guys, Can anyone tell me on Taylors Bay and its little beach are accessable from land , from the looks of the Sat pics its a very deep bay right up the beach.......looks like a good place for fishn......maybe not great, as its very enclosed, but still...... Rexxy
