Great Report, 11 kings would have been Great especially on the light tackle We caught 1 on 4.5kg line and that was a heap of fun How do you setup your Poor man Down Rigger, I have wanted to try downrigging but bot ready to spend even more money Some one not mentioning names would kill me Dave

Went Fishing Saturday & Sunday on the Harbor Sat Started at 6am worked hard to get 2 Squid and picked up a small octopus on the squid jig which we threw back. So Armed with a packet of Prawns and the 2 squid we went looking for kings Went to Yellow Mark at south head with some overseas friends who lasted about 5 minutes before I had to drop them back to the Warf, ok it was a bit rocky Tried a few spots with no luck, at 12.30 called a friend to see if he wanted to join for a hour before I got of the water, Went back to on of the spots that did not work in the morning and lost what I think was a big travail right at the boat, It was fighting very hard but I knew it was not a king Then after another 10 minutes caught at 53cm King, amazing how hard these small kings fight. While we were unhooking and another line got hit and broke the line before we even knew it was on and of. Not long after we then got another on a rig for smaller fish with 4.5 kg line and a very thin rod, it took a lot longer to land this Fish, Probably the best fight to land this fish ever had on my boat, It was also my Friends first King and although it was another Rat 58cm it was the biggest fish he ever caught, See Picture We landed another Rat and Ran out of the Squid so we called it a Day Got Home and told my oldest son we caught 3 kings and 2 squid 1 small octopus and he got a bit upset he did not some so promised I would take him out Sunday Sunday Started late 9.30am but managed to pickup 2 small squid, Headed to the same spot that worked the day before but another boat was already there and was landing King after king all about the same size, He was by himself but I thing I counted over 15. We had a lot of trouble anchoring with the strong wind, The sounder showed fish passing under us but we caught nothing for 1 hour then the front rod went off and we caught a king 57cm, My son was so happy and before we could take the Hook out of its mouth the gut in the other Boat called out that we were on with the back Rod Landed a second 57cm King, Took a picture and sent them both back into the blue This is the second time in 2 trips with my 7 year old that he had to kings in the boat at the same time, How cool is that Looking forward to when we can keep a fish but I’m still very happy catching the Rats although people look at me strange when I say I had a successful day fishing but did not bring any fish home

Hi All Was fishing the Yellow Mark at Sydney Harbour North Head Yesterday and there was a boat catching lots of Undersize Kings They were using Prawns which worked a lot better than by frozen Squid that I had left over from Xmas day Question do the undersize kings prefer Prawns or was it just that the Squid was not Super fresh? When I looked they seamed to be throwing them back but the Police came for a random check and they were caught keeping atleast 3 Rats We had caught several 52cm a few days earlier in the same spot and released them but yesterday could not get a nibble The Police fined them Big time "Busted " and then checked my boat with was ok except I forgot to carry my fishing licence so they gave me a warning. Why dont they link the Fishing licence to your Boat licence for those of us that have them? Dave

Fantastic, Spent 8 months chasing these Bandits, They fight like nothing else If you fish for the fight these are the fish for you, The Season is on so you should catch more if you target them CHeers David

Hi all Might not be great compared to some others but we had the best fishing day ever on Christmas Day Bit of Background I got hooked on chasing Kings since March after going on a Harbor Charter where we caught about 5, Converted my Family Boat to a fishing Boat, Added Rod Holders, Live Bait tank, Cutting Board, Fish Finder and Purchased a new Rod and reel especially for Kings Then Nothing and I mean Nothing zilch Squat the Big 0 . Fished all through winter, Read reports, Spoke to Experienced Fisherman etc etc, but still nothing. Did anyone say Obsessed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew that it was off season and kept telling myself that it the season and not me but then you would read reports and which showed they were still there to catch Well Santa finally came through and delivered on Christmas Day Hit the water about 7am by my self, The Harbor was like a Ghost Town, Went looking for Squid with no Luck so went and picked up a dozen Yakkers Has some overseas visitor that I had to pickup from the Opera house about 10am so I decided to try again from some Squid and landed about 4 which for me was a Personal Best, Headed to the Opera house and saw a heap of Kings working the surface but did not get hooked up. Had a cruise around and tried a few spots with no luck, decided to get some Lunch at Watsons Bay but all the Restaurants we closed, decided to try for some more Squid so my visitors could catch something and picked up another 4 Had another hour to kill so we tried one last time to pickup a king and 5 minutes after we dropped a line down the Rod Bent like a U, Shook my head and said no way, Cant be 3 minutes later landed and 65cm King, I rang my 7 year old son who wished me luck in the morning but is over catching nothing so did not some out on the Boat, He was happy I finally caught the fish that had eluded me for so long and was keen to join. Dropped of my visitors then picked him up Decided to drift past some Marks and promised that he had the next if we got another, Sure enough once again the Rod bent and we were on again. He was hopping and screaming as the fish drew line and pulled the rod down After a short but strong fight he landed and 55 cm King which is in the picture attached Kissed it good by and set if free to fight another day My son asked me Dad do you remember how old you were when you caught your fist King, Sure son I was 38.5, (9 months ago) He laugh and told me, I’m 7 Only thing better that catching a King is watching you son catch one Sorry for the long post but 12 Yakkas 8 Squid and 2 kings after 20+ attempts Very exciting

Who formed these questions, it would be very easy to misread and vote incorrectly, I imagine that all fish raider support preserving the waters we fish in so we can enjoy fishing for ourselves and our kids but we can only do that if we are allowed to fish so how would vote against recreational fishing?

Sometimes reading these reports hurt How cool to see the fish working from home and land one a hour later How do you plan on cooking it? Looking for a good king fish recipie regards Dave

Thanks for the replies It really helps getting advice What size hook would you put in the tail and how would you rig a second Hook? Also when they bite the tail, will they cut the leader?

Hi Fish Raiders I need some help, I have been focusing on fishing Sydney Harbor targeting King Fish mostly with Live Yakka’s but have had very little success. I try for Squid but have only managed to get some a few times and it has not help but I have fished right through winter so I know I can at least take some solace in the reality take it was off season Quite a few times now I have had the Yakka bit completely in half! They are taken from the tail right to the hook above the back fin, with a clean semi circle bite. My theory is that as the Taylor attack from behind, the Taylor feels the fishing line just before they reach the hook and bite Is there a different way for rigging a live yellow tail for tailor when the Kings are not working? Any advise will be appreciated Thanks to all Dave

Hi Dave Thanks for the reply, was a bit lost but at least i know what to call my regular catch. My wife’s name is Simone and mine David, like I said Cool name Dave lol I always loved fishing but never had anyone to teach us so we really appreciate the posts on this site Went on a Sydney harbour fishing charter in March and got caught hook line and sinker on kings, been chasing them ever since with only a single successful landing I was having no problems at all of getting Yakka till the last 4 weeks, is it the time of year? Not had much luck getting Squid but caught 5 3 weeks ago but still no kings at any of the spots I went to during the charter, Thanks again to everyone on this site for the reports Fishing is not a sport its addiction.

Fantastic, Im more than Twice your age and only dream about a fish like that, Fished most of my life but had no one to show me the ropes, Went on a harbour fishing charter 3 months back and learned more in 8 hours than i did in 30 years. I discovered the Kings in tha Harbour and thought that was the most amazging thing ever Setting my goal at trying to catch a Sydney Harbour Jew Fish however if anyone can reccomend a good Charter for the YFT from sydney harbour, I'd appreciate it Nothing better than fishing Great report,
