  1. thanks for the advice! i'm going to be using it for throwing metals when off the rocks and for soft plastics off the beach (whiting, flathead etc). Should i get the heavier rated models (30lb) or go for the 20lb? the Agility only goes up to 14lb, is that too light for off the rocks? i was thinking about the silstar as well, is it worth going up to the blue powertip ($155) or is the difference between the two minimal?
  2. Hi raiders, i've been looking at getting a graphite rod for my rock/beach fishing. I don't want to get a seajigger because it costs too much for something that'll i'll be using in rough conditions. I was looking at the Shakespeare Agility and the Daiwa Heartland. has anyone used either of these rods and can comment on what they think of them? from what i've seen the agility should cost around $80 and the heartland around $150. i'm also thinking of using a Stradic 4000FI on it, running 10lb braid off one spool and 14lb braid off the other. feel free to suggest combo's for that price range and are a decent weight! Cheers, Will
  3. unfortunately something has come up and I won't be able to make it, could you please remove me from the list? look forward to the pictures and videos from the day! Cheers, Will
  4. Please include me as well! I'm keen to learn from the pro's, also i'm landbased. Cheers, Will
  5. is it hard to get to the points you have marked? do you need to climb over rocks etc or is there a pathway? Cheers, Will
  6. nice looking bream...the last cast is always worth it!
  7. thanks for the response guys! for some reason i thought i had to go really light, so i bought myself the Nitro 1/24oz with size 2 hooks. Wish i'd posted this up before i went out and bought them! I'm going to be using it in Pittwater (hiring a boat), do you think its too light? should i go back and get some heavier weights?
  8. congrats, the big one looks so tasty!
  9. Hi Raiders, Recently i've been getting into the soft plastics, I was wondering whether the type of jig head you choose affects your success? what difference does having a round weight vs a the long shaped weight make? how do you decide to use one or the other? Thanks! Will

    Broken Reel Seat

Tony, one of the site sponsors builds rods so if anyone can help you it'd probably be him! either send him a PM or go on his site http://fishfinder.com.au/
  13. my thoughts exactly....it p*sses me off to no end when i catch a fish and then a whole group of morons start casting in my direction. worse still when the line gets tangled and then you have to spend precious fishing time untangling your line! some people just have no respect. best part of secret spots....its just you and your mates. and thats the way you'd want to keep it! no need to be courteous to anyone, do as you please, no need to constantly watch out for people moving into the indent your shoes made in the grass, the list goes on

    Sounders

    thanks for your replies guys!
  15. Hi alex, I believe GoFish carries them, they're a site sponsor. they just came out so they need to be ordered in, but i'm sure that can be arranged. Cheers, Will
  16. i use an advantage and its smooth as. i just got a matching 3 piece advantage rod too and it feels awesome! as for the shimano vs daiwa debate...comes down to personal choice. personally i think that the stradic sits between the tierra and advantage, but then again, you would not be able to pick the difference when using it as they're both great reels.

    Sounders

Hi all, i've been thinking of buying a sounder and i was wondering how cheap can they go before they're useless? i don't own my own boat, so i'll just be taking it out whenever i hire one. also, has anyone got suggestions for the better brands for those cheapo sounders? Cheers, Will
  18. cliff fishing looks like an extreme sport! congrats on the nice fish
  19. flounder as bycatch...still gotta be happy with that!
  20. nice squid! would you mind letting us know which side of the bridge were you casting?
  21. don't know why anyone would want to eat a toadie...they look highly unpalatable! as for fugu...its one of those life experiences i guess. something you do...kind of like jumping out of a plane! what does a fortescue look like?
  22. thanks for that slinky, with all your great tips i can taste the squid already
  23. ok i've got a couple more questions before i hit the water... is it necessary to 'set' the hooks once you feel some weight or does the squid hook itself? does a squid fight like a fish? and what does the take feel like? i caught an octopus before and that felt like i was just dragging up a rock, are squid the same? thanks for all the helpful posts!
  24. thanks for the tutorial slinky, its greatly appreciated, you make it sound so easy!!! can you tell me about actual techniques with the lure? do i just cast, let it sink and then give it a few flicks and then rinse and repeat? how far should i allow the jig to sink? should i keep the jig moving at a fast pace or bring it back slowly?
  25. thats a huge flatty, do they put up much of a fight at that size? some of the smaller models i've caught just felt like weed
