  1. I'm interested in getting into squidding, can anyone give me any tips? i've heard that fishing near kelp and seaweed is the best way to catch them, but how do you avoid losing your expensive lures? are there any specific times when squid are more active? are there any times where all i'll get is casting practice?
  2. sounds like you had a good time and results to boot! any chance you can give away whereabouts that rockwall is?
  3. on the face of it they seem like good reels, although i'm sure i read somewhere that there are reliability issues, can't remember where i read that though!
  4. so whats your collection looking like now? not too long ago i was reading about you getting a fireblood and other assorted goodies!
  5. i think i'm going to have to disagree with you there cam, there is a difference between the daiwas despite them all sporting similar features, the difference being build quality(longevity). with the cy and exceler (both similar reels) there's no doubt that you get a lot of bang for your buck, but i think that after a year or so of using them, they will be relatively worn whereas the Tierra/Advantage/Sol will still be performing as new. the more expensive reels can take more punishment and for longer whereas you may find the drag failing etc in the cheaper variants. just my two cents back to the topic at hand...daiwa offers more for your money in the mid range reels i believe. so Tierra gets the vote for me, although there is a bit of a price difference between the two, so a better comparison for the price would probably be the Daiwa Advantage/Sol vs Stradic
  6. sounds like you had a good day! did you send the salmon back out?
  7. awesome squid! do you catch them during the day? i've been hoping to get my first one soon!
  8. I was thinking of buying one of these, does anyone have experience with 3 piece rods? this is a new model so i was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about them?
  9. thanks for the offer warnie, really appreciate it but i spend most of my time up north these days! thanks for all the suggestions guys, i'm definitely going to give all of those knots a go (once it stops raining that is)! im just paranoid about my line giving up on me when i finally hook that elusive jew!!
  10. maybe i'm not picky enough with my fish, i just use the old running sinker straight to the hook and i've never had a bite off. although i do catch a lot of garbage so perhaps i'm be doing the wrong thing! how do you fish differently for snapper? i've only ever tried the running sinker rig, do other rigs really make a difference as to the fish you can catch?
  11. i've heard that you can deflate them by putting a straw in its mouth...if you have a straw handy that is haha
  12. im currently using a double uni knot to join my 8lb fireline to a 12lb flurocarbon leader, however i noticed that on one occasion, the knot slipped! has anyone else had this happen to them and if so, what can i do about it?! i'd like to try the albright knot but the diagrams i've seen just confuse the heck out of me!
  13. daiwa makes a rod thats designed for the advantage series, so thats a good place to start. Some models you might be interested in: TD-AA 601 HFS - this is a 6 foot 1 piece rod or if he's after something longer: TD-AA 701 MFS - 7 foot 1 piece as well they retail for around $200 i think, but not too sure. hope that helps!
  14. awesome shots, didn't know there were any whale sharks in captivity
  15. why does everyone hate leatherjackets so much? they taste alright, just put on a longshank hook and get yourself an easy feed!
  16. Hi All, I'm heading up to Jervis Bay in a few weeks and was planning to sneak in a fish. Can anyone give me some tips about fishing the area? I'll be using relatively light gear and will be mainly land based. Thanks in advance!
