    Narooma

Gday everyone, I've fished Narooma a few times in a small tinny, and have done well with snapper in the lake, lots of flatties and bream. This time im heading down with a 5 meter Centre console with a 60hpr. Its equipped with downriggers, live bait tank and a GPS/Fish finder combo so my question is, without crossing the bar, does anyone have some advice/experience on getting some decent fish (Kingfish, Snapper, Tuna if possible) without heading too far off the coast. I'm yet to get a marine radio, and EPIRB so im unable to get more than 2NM off the coast. I'm happy to drive down to Bermagui or another boat ramp to avoid the dreaded bar. Cheers Gorms
  5. Its just my opinion so no hard and fast rule. If you get bigger kings, this gear will struggle to do the job however and you would consider stuff like TLD25s with 50pd braid etc at the cheaper gear range. Just out of interest, What rod would you match the TLD25 up with?
  6. The HDS5 i have for my boat is amazing and i can not think of many other things i have bought in life that have been worth the cash as this Lowrance unit. Turn it on, away you go. Find a spot, hit WPT, and your mark is set. Idiot proof!
  7. mate sounds good. I might stick to a rod each rigger but will take on board the positioning. If your running the scotty 1050, do you, or anyone reading have total faith in the rod holders attached? Are they in risk of loosing your rod and reel on hook up? Thanks again for your post Cheers Gorms
  8. Hey Jewgaffer, You looked into the dual downrigger thing? Ive bought 2 for my boat, thought i keep getting told they will get tangled up. I thought with the baits at 2 different depths and lenghts from the boat, you shouldnt have a problem. Im still going to fit both of them, but any tips you've heard? cheers Gorms
  9. Gday again. When i was looking at the HDS5, they were initally giving away a card with the unit, though it was higher in price i believe. When i purchased it, the were offering a card seperately for $200 or so to go with the unit, and the Navionics card which was $100 maybe per region, or the Gold card for $300. Well i was planning a trip up the coast to QLD so i ended up getting the Navionics Gold. Call around and try and get people to beat other peoples price. Im not sure where your based, but try Hunts Marine accessories department at Blakehurst. Tell them youve heard they are competitive with prices. Just one last thing, you will read people in forums say that they are never gonna buy Lowrance again, or that theirs broke, but the way i look at it, is there will be 100 people say they like theirs as to the one person who says they are rubbish. Its like saying all BMW cars are lemons cause one broke down. You will just have to look after the one you buy and hope your in the high % of good ones. good luck Gorms
  10. Gday I bought mine from BIAS boating. I ran my cables though it, and havent had a problem. Not sure of the cost though. cheers
  11. Lowrance in my opinion have a great GPS/finder combo. I got a guy from BIAS to put a lowrance vs the Garmin combo (Garmin 450s) and whilst the Garmin did have a good GPS function, the finder wasnt as detailed as you would like. The Lowrance fishfinder was well detailed with a higher pixel rate. This is the Lowrance i ended up getting, HDS5. $1100 from the boatshow i think, maybe a bit less.
