Wow, what a monster. Shame it couldn't have gone back, way it goes some time. Can only imagine the excitement when the first colour was spotted.

Thanks Roberta.
Yeah I'll definately be able to get it longer than that. There actually seemed to be a fair bit around in a couple of spots, I'd had a look a couple of weeks ago and had found a little bit but not much at all and it was really small. The warmer weather might have kicked it along a bit.
I'm off to read your blackie tips thread so I can try an get a decent rig happening.

Thanks for the help guys.
Yeah there was some real fluro green stuff around as well. Almost had some black streaks through it. There was some sections with no white dying off parts so I guess I will try those. Looks like I'm going to be trying to catch some blackfish this weekend! Wish me luck.
That looks good to chop up and mix with sand for berley but looks a little short for a good bait.
Have a look here. I used to collect weed from here and sell to Tom Ugly's Bait Shop every week.
I'm gunna spend the next hour trying to figure out where that is!

Hoping some of you blackie experts can help me out. I went for a scout around my local rocks this afternoon to see if I could find some decent weed. Problem is I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking for. It was low tide and there was plenty of rocks exposed which was good, some great cunje covered platforms that I will have to fish at some stage as well. Found some cabbage which I had no problem identifying and some different weedy type things that I took some photo's of.
Ok, so I got the pics to work, I'll post a couple more in a minute. What I wanted to know is is the right stuff? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That top fish is a rippa. Never fished there but Pearl Beach is a beautiful spot.
Nice job mate.

Great Whiting mate. You can keep those Salmon though, fun to catch but I'd rather eat my old boot.

Hi Loxo & to FIshraider! Just sit & watch the old blokes for a while & then give it a go yourself! They were probably fishing the last of the out tide - a popular time to fish. If you are new to the Dark Art of Blackfishing, a bunch of Raiders have contributed to this thread on "The Best Ever Blackfishing Tips"
http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=23679
It'll help you on your way! Good luck at finding some weed or cabbage!!

Hi Roberta, thanks a lot for your welcome. Awesome thread btw. I've read through it and it's got loads of great info. Nice work.
Yeah I was just relaxing after work with a packet of prawns but spent more time watching these blokes do their business. They where pretty quiet at first but I got to having a chat with the older bloke after a while and he gave me a few tips. Turns out he has been fishing the same jetty for 50 years so it's probably fair to say he knows what he's doing. Good old bloke, also said it was worth a try for some squid in the area so I will give that a go as it warms up and I can get past dark without freezing to death.
I didn't want to push the envolope so I didn't ask him where he got his weed but I live in Cronulla so I'm gunna scrounge arund the rocks this week and see what I can come up with. Definately going to give it a go later in the week. Wish me luck

I watched a couple of older guys kill it on the blackfish at my local wharf in the Port Hacking on Monday afternoon. Both blokes caught plenty of fish. Think I'm going to have to become a convert!

I was up there on Saturday but it was blowing a gale so we couldn't get a fish in. Had a good few hrs on the beach in my mates old landrover though. First time I have been up there, it's a great spot.

Went out sunday night in the harbour and had the same problem. Scored some premo bait, squid and livies, was such a shame to get on the perfect drift you were after only to feel your line snip like someone was down there with a pair of scissors
