  1. boys details are forth coming just trying to pack the house and get the car and boat ready for the road trip up nth coast and now im going out tonight to see micheal frente and spear head at the enmore. So details and better photos over the next few days. but here are a few 15kg line 20min to 1/2hr fight the fish got me down to the backing toooo many times the fight got hot in 100mts of water but the fish really started to buck in the last 50mts thats when it took 120yards of braid and my fight was just to get the knot back on the reel.+ i had everyone givin me shit. during the fight. the best part was when i saw my mate adams face when it was time to gaff the fish. Thats when i knew i was onto something special. I looked over the side and went whaooo. When the fish hit the deck it was all around. It took 2 of us in rollin seas to hold the fish up for the cameras. the jig was a cheap 10 buck jig. better photos will come soon

  4. sorry to open this thread again but can some one help me out on this one as well . i have a water snake w54 which draws 38amps and need to buy a battery . I have 4.3mt quintrex reef runnner. cheers john
  5. go electric , nothing better then pushing the switch up and then forgetting about the bomb until it comes up. This gives you time to fight the fish and not to worry about winding in the bomb with rod in one hand and boat rocking from you moving about. Run one downrigger until you get the hang of it or if you fish solo. A double hook up on manual downriggers would make you cry like a little girl if your on your own. hope this helps. cheers john
  6. Hi kingy kid. where abouts do live in Avalon. Ive lived and fished up round here for 15 years .we should catch up for a fishing session. What i like about this site is that people have veriety and people seem to really like cooking fish. Keep up the good work everyone. Kingy kid ive caught plenty of salmon , i dont really keep them often but cooked in the right way as you have they taste great . I caught a stomper up off nth Ballania wall a few years ago when i was staying with a few chef mates . I made a thai red curry , grilled the salmon steaks and served the steaks in the red curry. I have cooked them a few times but this dish was amazing. The secret is to bleed and gut the fish straight away chill it so as not to let the flavour develope to much. another point is when you skin it make sure you take off as much of the blood line as possible ,lots of oil in this area. Oil = flavour but most important is not to over cook it thats when it dries out and all the oils in the flesh taste bitter and strong. good luck and hope to see you out on the water one day. cheers john
