  1. Well we made it half way! decided that IF the wind and chop didn't calm down as forecast the trip back would spoil the day. so we come back to long reef. found trevs, rat kings, yakkas the same size as the kings anda pod of dolphins that rode our bow for a bit. No tuna, no keepers but still beats being at work.
  2. Will do. Thanks for the tip Reel game. Will be in a 6.4m glass boat, so long as wind and swell are not double the forecast we should be comfortable, if its slow, its slow. I'll have at least 40l extra fuel on board. The will make sure we pull up stumps with time to spare, fish or no fish!!
  3. Hey all, heading out tomorrow to have a crack at these tuna. Haven't been out there before but don't see a problem tomorrow by the look of the weather. And i reckon we won't be alone...Anyone else heading out in the morning?
  4. By the calander i thought it was full moon tomorrow (14th) night but its actually 4:58AM tomorrow . So do you think it would be better fishing tonight or tomorrow night?

    West Head

Hi everyone, Was wondering if anyone knows if West Head is still holding good numbers of Yakkas? Or have the baby Sweep and those brown and white stripy things moved in already?
  9. Nice haul guys, The black fish is a fish i haven't targeted much. I'll have to change that this winter.
  10. Some guys i know call them 'Kingfish Lolly Pops', Reckon they love 'em. Also heard choppers do too. I don't know about jews though. I threw one out live on a beach once for a jew but came up with a flattie. Good luck
  11. North end of the pittwater from the shore
  12. I use two hooks (long shank size 8 or 6) on different length leaders coming off one swivel. A short length of line for a burley cage, swivel on top, snap swivel on botom (so this piece of line is removable) and a snap swivel at the end of my leader, and just a bobby float above that. Once the fish are content in front of me i take the burley cage off to lighten up the rig. Unless there is wind impeading my casting. Firmley squash bread on and when the float moves across the water, strike and wind and don't stop or even slow down untill they're on the sand. They only need the tention to drop a tiny bit and they'll throw the hook. They'll even jump in front of the float to get slack line.. They're smart!
  13. Hi all, Decided to leave the boat at home today, this whether calls for a fish and a swim in the pittwater WITHOUT the efort of launching and landing the Boat. So Em end up landing her first ever, and then her second, Garfish and i get my best haul (12) of these little hook throwing, Ballistic Billfish. And a record, 36cm Garfish as well. They are my favourite target as they make good bait, good eating and the fight is unreal. They go nut... I love it. See Ya.
  14. Thats exactly what I just had for dinner Beer battered flake!! yummy

Hi every one. I have heared of these tail roping poles where the pole detaches after the tail is wraped, but i can't seem to find anywhere that sells them. Does anyone know of a place that sells this kinda thing?

Thanks guys, Unfortuntly (for my bank account) thats what i wanted to hear!!! 99.8% of feed back has been good now, so I'll have to really look hard at the ones i look at for some negative stuff. Thanks again for your help. Dan.

    Southwind

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone might be able to shear any info on the larger southwind boats like the 640. I've read a few reviews by pro's but can't find any feedback from people that aren't being paid to drive them. Just wondering if they have any outstanding faults or quirks that out weigh the good qualities in the long run. Am looking at a 2004 sf640 platinum, 225 Yamaha 4 stroke with300hrs. All the extras. (out riggers are the only thing missing)...... $50 000. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks for any help. Dan.
  19. Hi all, Am heading out in the Pittwater tomorrow. Will be targeting garfish, a few for a feed and hoping to throw a few back in and turn them into kings..... Hopfuly. Was wandering if any one knows any spots to regularly find squid in the pittwater?
  20. Hi Monch, I was recently told by one who would know, not to worry about a fancy two hook rig. just pin a relativly small hook trough the bottom jaw. As an experiment he said to try the 1/0 cutlass jigging hook. Another way I've been thinking about is the cable tie through the eyes and the hook through that, this is a secure way of holding the hook at the head without hitting any major organs. If I was going to use a second hook it would be a relativly small treble pined just infront of the dorsal fin or cable tied just behind. I'll let you know when i actually do it. Dan
  21. Yeah they're good alright. We were only in 2.5m of water so i didn't bother putting a live garie out. Just wanted to get a feed for ourselve this time. Next time though.... I'll try going deeper and deeper and seeing if they follow me. Then i'll drop one live. Or just motor over to some moored boats or a hole on the western side. Either way this is the year that i'm going to catch my first Kingy. Dan.
  22. Hi Raiders, Returned to the pittwater this week with the . Wednesday 4th, found tailor smashing white bait and our 20g metals. (even though the white bait were only about 3g, thats the best thing about tailor) Continued north to find teeny weeny snapper, and more tailor. then the kings surfaced right next to the boat, but clearly just to say G'day cos they didn't want to eat anything. By the end of the trip boated 4 teeny snapper, hooked around 20 tailor each, boated around 10 each, kept 6 37-45cm. Round Two. Started the same, school of tailor smashing white bait. Took 6 again. then headed in to 2.5m water over weed beds. set the anchor, burley and droped biats. flicked lures for a bit but just like the numerous tounament boats around us had no luck. I've been itching to get a hook into some healthy garfish since last May, so made a rig and started floating some bread out ni the burley trail. 10mins later a school of about 100 or so started appearing. I got a few and then made a rig and started trying. They were VERY skitty and wouldn't swallow a biat, just mouth and spit, so after an hour only had 5 on borad. Was over the moon with that though. They are my favarite target and some of the sweetest meat out there. The bigest one was 100g cleaned. Doesn't sound like much but if you know garfish you'll know. (That one was 32cm long and over 2 cm across the guts) What a week. so glad that summer is back! Dan
  23. Hi All, ok so they are not the best tasting fish but if you know how to cook them they are great. all you need is somr sweet chilli sauce, ketjap manis (sweet soy), lime juice, pepper salt to taste and fresh coriander shredded up, put all in bowl to taste. Dice up your salmon, cook in frying pan ans serve in iceburg lettuce cups. Yummy... just like san choy bow its all in the cooking of fish that determins if its good eating or not thatks
  24. Hi Dan, what type of metals? the silver or blue slugs just aint working, I have a couple of slugs, couple of rios and a cream colour ****** cheapy wich aliminates under water, they worked a treat, I bought new slugs as I lost the last few. cheers Basil Groper, They are called Knights, they are designed for spinning, jigging or trolling. They go from 10g to 100g. I get them from Go Fish They'are good cos they've got the silver for flash and a bit of colour aswell. Dan.
