  1. THat is just BS, the wellbeing of everything is effected by the greed of a few... namely ministers with pockets, and commercial parties with something to put into those pockets... Once again, listen to the minority, for the detriment of everyone. A dog's game.... wait a minute..I own dogs, and they wouldnt do that to eachother. So... So frustrated by this. Sometimes I think the only way to get heard is by using the loudest medium....MONEY. Wonder the reaction if all rec fisho's flat out refused to pay there fishing lisence? WOuld they listen then...Probably not.We would just give them more money in fines to do nothing with, lets just do to pittwatter what was done to cheaspeake bay bass..... all gone(google it if u dont know). nothng will change, pittwater will die, along with Broken bay. while a few commercial netters a fishers get fat (not even that fat), at the same time as decimating natural stocks we are all entitled too. (Shoot selves in fooT) BS, big bag of BS, huge bag of BS. very frustrated rant OVER, sorry guys, but like us all I feel we are fighting a loosing battle.
  2. Done too, just send an email everyone, this is too important to ignore, I live on brisbane water, and this still effects me and my fishing. would love to see broken bay and pittwater as good as it could be. It's simply an amazing place that should be fought for.
  3. Mate, its just unlucky. I grew up on hargraves beach and it can be fickle, really need to fish the gutters as with any beach. An option there not many people look at is the southern end of the beach, say the southern third, it is dotted with lots of little reefs and rocks that can hold a variety of fish. Used to Fish - spearfish and surf this area for 20 yrs. Get a livie or butterfly tailor out there at the right time, and you should find Jew, as the water movement here is less than up on the point. Have caught a few and seen Snorkelling heaps of jew there over the years. THe northern point is a little overrated if you ask me, and sometimes are better off heading up to the deep gutters at 3rd or 4h carpark up at Budgeiwoi (same beach, just a few klm's up.) Good part of the world...
  4. Hey mate, I have a 150 etec from Huey, Im pretty sure mine runs around 50C or just under. But as mentioned, huey would know the news... and yeah, early morning, or cold days, I do get some water vapour. Awesome engine, 100hrs, and lovin it. Cheers
  5. Hi All, I am taking the wife and dogs for a quiet weekend away up in Monkerai NSW. The property is just 400m from the Karuah river and, Even though I have promised the wife it isnt a fishing weekend, Im going to sneak a rod into the pajero. I am a saltwater boat angler, never really fished fresh. Wondering what kind of species to expect if any? Im assuming Bass, but others? Anyone had any experience on the fresh on the karuah river? Trying to narrow down lure choice. Cheers, Dave
  6. Hi all, Wondering if there is a site that people use for barometer forecast, or even if they do them? All the talk about fishing and the barometer has got me trying to coincide my next jewie trip with the moon and the barometer... Cheers!
  7. The only problem ive found is the ciggie lighter adapter I put on the end of the pump, is starting to rust... Took me a little while to get it positioned on the boat right, when youre comfy everything works, seal up the outlet to make sure no water leaks into your boat. Happy live-baiting!
  8. I used an old esky, with the bilge pumping from the inlet (which I just drop over the transom when using) running thru the top of the esky and an outlet pipe (twice the size of the inlet) at the level I want it to drain from (this runs out over the transom too). I have to have the top of the tank above the boat so gravity get the water out for me. I just connected the bilge to a ciggie lighter adapter and plug it in when I want it on! She works a treat on the yakkas (they last all day), but haven't tried it on the squid yet. Just secure the esky with ocky straps or such! its fun fishing all the yakkas out of the bottom of the boat when you stop a bit too quick!! Nice and cheap and works well for me!
  9. Hi all, Im taking the wife to one of the waterfront places on Bar point tomorrow for a few days fishing and doing nothing. Is there somewhere at brooklyn or surrounds that I can get fresh Bait from (prawns and squid)? I remember hearing something about getting it from the commercial guys, basically straight off the boat, but wouldn't have a clue? Is there a boat access bait store in the area? Also any advice on where I can get Yakkas from between juno and Bar point? (save going all the way to west head) Cheers guys...
  10. Hi All, Im taking the new etec out to west reef (weather permitting) on saturday, have fished there a few times and wanted to head further out and try some new grounds. (maybe not brown's just yet!) Was wondering if anyone was heading out to some other reefs that doesnt mind another raider's boat tagging along. Like I said, only really done west reef an few times, (with some luck but, last time got me a 10kg jewie - pictured) and would like to head further out for some bottom bouncing etc. I have a 5.5mtr pride gazelle with a new 150 etec and a 70 liter tank. (+ 20 in the jerry!) GPS and Sounder and all the safety gear. If anyone is heading out that way on saturday and feeling generous, would really appreciate it. Cheers,
  11. I dont blame you, Im camping happy with one new 150 etec on the back of my 5.5mtr pride gazelle. I can imagine what two 250's would feel like on the back of your new rig... Adrenaline would be pumping. The run back from the gong would have been awesome!
  12. Great, thats what was thinking of doing, thanks heapr for youe help guys. Im off to play with crimpers, next weeknd I can fish...
  13. Fair call, do I then just connect both the ACC wire and the power wire to the positive bus, without a switch? would this cause any excessive drain on the batteries when using the boat/motor, but not the stereo?
  14. Thanks Vince, I think I get what your saying. The ACC wire is the red one and the 12V power is yellow on this one. So if I run the acc wire thru a new switch to the positive bus then it should work.? The switch would then isolate the stereo when not using. so i dont drain the batteries?
  15. Hi all, I am installing a new stereo in the boat (old one died) myslef to save a few bucks and had a question I was hoping someone could answer for me. It is a car stereo. I have the positive and negative and speakers sorted out, but there is one wire from the stereo I am not sure what to do with. In the install manual it says "when this unit is installed in a vehcile wihtout ACC (accessory) position on the igintion it must be wired to the terminal that can detect the operstion of the ignition key, otherwise battery drain may result" I have just had huey install a new etec and dont want to put anything to the new iginiton (not that I would know how). But dont want to drain battery. Do i need to worry about this wire? Any help from someone who know would be great.
  16. Good to hear mate, I was left with the same satisfied feeling after that first start. Where do you mainly use your boat?
  17. AFter spending a couple of months researching and comparing, i found as other have said, its like the old Holden V ford debate. I found pretty much equal amount of bad and good reports about most of the brands and technologies. It really is horses for courses I think. Ive just put a new 150 etec on, so was between that and the optimax 135, what swayed me in the end was trust in the dealer to set it up right and look after me thru the servicing and warranty period. They are all mechanical, so inherently there are bound to be failures along the way in any engine. and my last two stroke was a merc and it died a horrible death!
  18. I glad Huey Explained that, cuz I couldnt answer it...all I know is it is very quiet. Thanks for all the comments. There is a wealth of knowledge around this place, which is awesome considering it isnt always easy to get a hold of. Just as a side note,,, the missus was actually really supportive throughout the drama of re-powering, but as we all know the minister for funding and spare time allocation can get a little edgey about our toys. Now it can stop being all about the engine and boat, and go back to being all about the fish... Would be great to follow one of you guys out to some reefs one day, Ive only really gone as far out as West reef, and am keen to explore further outside of broken bay, but would like to do it with another vessel the first few times...
  19. I think if I do it right she probably wont really notice for a while.... Ross Ive allready used the whole less fuel thing as leverage to get the etec , worked a treat too! but i think this one will stretch it. Im really happy with the setup, Ive just got a few little additions to the boat to make and ill have it setup just the way I want it...(for now)
  20. Yep its definitely done that, and some.... Just trying to figure out how to tell the wife I want a new Bimini and rocket launchers!
  21. Hi All, Had to show off my new toy as well. and post some pics/ Decided not to go the optimax, and jumped on the 150 Etec train. Mainly due to servicing costs, trust in the dealer and the etec just looks great in white. Big thanks to Huey for all the help, service, and answering many questions, which im still asking. Took her out from Woy Woy on sunday and spent the day cruising and fishing broken bay/ pittwater and brisbane water. The thing is a beast, really happy with it. I dont have lots of figures to flash around, I will gather them as i go and pass on the info. But I can say that it so far it is everything I was told it would be. Really powerful, very fast, very very quiet... This is all compared to my old carbie 135 mariner. When I get the gauges calibrated to the tank I can give some idea of fuel savings, but just on a quick comparison, I would have done at least 70 liters in my old engine on sunday.... I think i used around 40 liters with the etec. (just a guess) The comparison to the ol 95 merc is crazy, I dont think my rig has ever gone so fast, so quickly. Throws you back in the seat when you give it some, wether its at 2000 revs or 4000 revs. Did some trolling, and it ticks along between 500 and 800 rpm nicely, will be great for trolling and downrigging..(when I get a downrigger) Just have to get used to driving her again, as it is worlds away from the old one. So im all ready for a great summer of chasing fish around broken bay and outside. Im hoping to meet a few of you out there. I should really name my boat now...Any ideas? Couldnt figure out how to put all the pics into the one post... more pics white is good... One more...
  22. Nice work, I saw your rig at Huetts when I picked mine up. I managed to get mine in the water yesterday, OMG! The 150 etec just flies!!! And so , so quiet... Someone mentioned to hang on when you put the throttle down... Damn straight there. Very responsive, all thru the range. At work now, but will post a report on how she went with some pics later. Didn't think to hit Huey up for a free cap though!! The cover looks good too, I might have to look into one.
  23. Just like the late great Big Kev said! Im EXCITED! Really cant wait. Anyone out there know someone on the Central coast who can make me a new custom Bimini, with front and side clears and a rocket launcher?
