  1. MARINE RESCUE NSW Media Release Date: 29 October 2013 Stolen Marine Rescue raffle boat recovered Brisbane Water police have recovered Marine Rescue Central Coast’s raffle prize boat, which was stolen on Thursday night. Marine Rescue NSW Headquarters has already replaced the 3.8m runabout with a brand new Anglapro boat to ensure the unit can proceed as planned with the prize draw in the raffle, its major fundraising event for the year. Unit Commander Patricia Fayers has welcomed the recovery of the original boat and arrival of the replacement vessel. Brisbane Water Police Local Area Command had posted images of a man wanted in connection with the theft on its Facebook page, calling on people to come forward with information to help identify him. The post had 24,000 hits and 800 shares. Police subsequently posted: “Around 1545hrs Monday the 28th of October 2013, following on-going investigations, investigators attached to the Brisbane Water Anti Theft Unit and Operation Saber executed a search warrant at a residential address in Kincumber. “During that warrant Police seized the boat, the motor (of) which had been removed and a number of items related to the raffle of the boat for Marine Rescue NSW which were still inside the boat. “Police will contend that a number of other items linked to the theft of the boat were located within the property.” Police enquiries are continuing. UC Fayers thanked all those who had assisted police with their investigations, as well as the unit’s local supporters and well-wishers who had rallied around members after news of the theft broke. The raffle prize draw will go ahead as scheduled at 3pm on Sunday, November 10 at the Brisbane Water Oyster Festival at Ettalong Beach. Tickets will be on sale again this weekend at Bunnings in West Gosford; outside IGA at Umina on November 7 to 9; and at the Oyster Festival on November 10. 2. MARINE RESCUE NSW Media Release Date: DD MM 2013 Thieves damage Wooli rescue boat, steal equipment Marine Rescue Wooli’s offshore rescue vessel has been vandalised for the second time in less than a year and valuable equipment stolen from on board. The vessel, moored on the Wooli River outside the unit’s base, was broken into overnight on Friday, with the thieves damaging radio antennas and stealing a range of small equipment. The cost of the damage and stolen items is estimated to be almost $2000. The $345,000 Naiad, delivered to the Wooli unit at Easter 2012, is still fit for duty on the water. Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Stacey Tannos condemned the theft and damage to the boat. “It’s utterly thoughtless to damage a community resource vital to saving lives on the water,” he said. “All our members are volunteers. They give their time to protect their communities by helping boaters in trouble, often when they are in immediate peril. “Far from this insult, they deserve nothing but our thanks and support for their selfless commitment.” Wooli 30 was one of three boats vandalised during a combined agency Search and Rescue Exercise at Coffs Harbour on November 25, 2012, when its sponsons – the boat’s air-filled buoyancy tubes – were slashed. The thieves this week stole a sea anchor, its fittings and line, a fire extinguisher, two sets of binoculars and a torch, worth a total of more than $1200. While the unit has been able to repair one antenna, another must be replaced. “Fortunately, this incident is not as serious as last year’s attack. Although the boat is still on the water, it is a major inconvenience to the unit’s volunteers, who rely on all this equipment in their work to find and assist boaters in trouble,” Commissioner Tannos said. “The Northern Rivers is among the State’s most popular summer boating playgrounds and it is crucial that our rescue crews are properly equipped to respond immediately when needed.” Commissioner Tannos urged anyone with any information on the incident or thieves to call Grafton police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
