  1. Hey Steve Tried calling you but you were not home. Talk soon
  2. Went out early Sunday morn for a turbo fish Hit the ledges on the central coast first up caught five yakkas and kept them in my pool sent one out and before i could put my rod down it was hit and i caught a tailor sent out another yakka and in no time flat i caught a bonito was going to put him out as live bait but he was gut hooked so was no good as a livie. so i turned to my spin stick and picked up another bonito and in no time flat he was on my big rod and out into water. Kept spinning and scored bonnie after bonnie then nothing everything went quiet. 10 minutes later the big rod goes of and i'm clambering over the rocks to pick it up, when i get to it it stops but then it goes again then stops then goes again so i strike and come up empty when i get it on the rocks all that's left is the head with a hook in it and a tail with the other hook in it. tried spinning up another bonnie but with no luck so i butterflied one i caught earlier and sent it out. also put out a yakka on the other rod and it goes of so i strike only to come up empty and when pulling in the dead yakka i see a king follow him up so i free spool him and the king has a couple of goes at him but only plays with him so i pull him in and go to get another yakka when the big rod goes of, i wait till he starts to run then push the drag up wait to feel some wait then lean back and come up solid. I climb up high to fight the fish and was trying to lead him around a low rock ledge out the front so i could walk him around to where some other blokes were fishing so they could gaff him for me but he didn't want to go that way so i turned the drag up climbed down to where my gear was and then clambered across the rocks to get the cliff gaff and set it up close to the edge so when i got the shark close i could reach the gaff. Now i have the shark up to the edge and juggle the rod and cliff gaff. Now gaff on line with rope in one hand and rod in the other i let the gaff down the line inch by inch keeping rope in mouth then hand mouth then hand mouth then hand. Gaff down to water level i pull the shark up to the surface then let the gaff down over him and pull but only to miss another 4 or 5 goes then finally come up tight so i drag him up onto the rocks what a great feeling doing all that without help. But were not finished yet i put out a yakka my last one and while cleaning up the rod goes of again i wait to feel some weight then lean back and come up solid a nice king 65cm What a top morning finished by 8:30. Tally 1 Tailor 7 Bonito 1 king 1 Hammerhead Tight Lines Anthony
  3. G'day Rockfisherman The trick to fishing metals is i believe the reel Buy a reel that has a real fast retrieve that is one that is 6 to 1 That is every time you turn the handle once the spool moves 6 times Throw the lure as far as you can wait about ten seconds letting it sink but not far enough to get snagged on the bottom then crank it back as fast as you can. the surface fish love a fast moving lure. salmon are probably the only ones who don't like it fast. Hope this helps Good luck and keep trying
  4. Hi Ray Didn't realise where i put the post Ooops Caught it on a yakka about 6:30

    Prawns

When you catch alot of prawns how do you keep them. Do you boil them then freeze them. If you want to keep them to marinade later can you freeze them then when needed defrost them marinade and cook. ? any other ideas
  7. Went out this morning hoping to catch some flattiesand on plastics Never used them before Had one hookup but droped him. Saw lots of whiting in the shallows some of them were a decent size. Came home empty handed but was great just to be out there. Made up a new poddy trap and gave it a whirl and it works a treat, caught twenty in no time flat i'm sure i'll have more success with these than i did with the plastics. I will persist with the the plastics because i like to catch fish on lures.

  10. Hey Nick I had never heard of the jewels in jewies until i saw a dvd i"m not sure what it was called but its more about blufein off the rocks, but has a sections on jewies with great footage. they show you how to cut a jewie up and show how to get the jewels out. What are the jewels good for? I'll try to find the title of the dvd if your interested.
  11. G'day Beginner I am a local and fish the rocks alot around there Can get very busy around there so you have to be early to get a spot. Best spot to get bait is off the front where the ledge drops close to the water and comes back up but need to be careful. Use bread for berly and a live bait jig under a small float. If there aren't many put a piece of peeled prawn on each hook this will help. As for gear just use what you have and you should be able to get onto some. most of the kings around there are undersize or just over legal. If you get onto a real big one it will drill you but you will get a real buzz. Not quiet the time of year yet though. You will get salmon this time of year. Be careful though and don't fish if the swell gets up around the 1.8mtr mark It's not worth the risk. Dont forget to invest in a good pair of rock boots If you want to get serious You get a kidy pool new rod and reel gaff and start from there. Good Luck and tight lines Anthony

  16. Went for a quick spin at Avoca this morn Was a beaut morn wind wasn't up but there was a bit of swell but could still fish quiet comfortably Caught 6 Bonnies and dropped another 4. Bonnies were only small but lots of fun. Only fished to 8:30 Great to see some bonnies around. Water is still surprisingly warm.
  17. Nice bream Ray I caught a few horsies and was going to see if you wanted one for bait but can see you don't need it What did you get the horsies on
  18. Fished near Avoca this morning of the rocks Was very windy but managed to get a few fish First caught three tailor on pillies caught a few yakas and tried to get them out but with the wind didn't have much success but landed 5 bonito spinning using home made metal lures great fun sorry no photos
  19. Went fishing with my son this morning off green point on the central coast we rowed a tinnie out put the anchor out and used prawns for bait caught lots of little stuff, bream, whiting, flathead, one leagal flathead and a flounder that went 30cm it was a beautiful morning on the water today but only had an hours fishing because we are gatting solar hot water put on. Great fun taking kids fishing but a warning when the kids catch a good fish they will be on your case to take them again & again & again My son caught a 52cm flathead one week and repeated it the next week so he is hooked, how good is that.
  20. Hey Ray waves were not to bad this morn but had to keep an eye on them because it was a rising tide.
  21. Hi Raiders Fished the local ledge this morning Got there in the dark and told my mate to throw out a pillie under a float because there might be some tailor around. He had 2 hits with no hook up but third time lucky he came up tight on a decent fish after 2 good runs and a bit of leading around the ledge we had him at our feet. still dark i had to try to gaff it, with torch in one hand and gaff in the other a good shot and we had a nice little jewie on the stones a first for my mate and a nice surprise. It went 3.5 kilos as you can see in the photo he was very happy. sun came up caught some live bait and drifted some out with no luck. Tight lines & screeming drags
  22. Hey Steve Fished the livie exactlly the same way as catching the tuna Under a ballon attached to my leader no lead. Livie free swimming
  23. Hi Raiders Went for a turbo Fish at local ledge this morn but when arrived ledge was already full so fished the other side on a low ledge but couldn't get livies out where i wanted and then to make things worse a couple of blokes fished the high ledge right over the top of me. By 6:45 i packed up very disappointed but kept the livies because i have noticed a ledge on the way in which i thought would be a good option but would be very hard to land any decent fish. Sent out livie of new ledge and what do you know Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and i'm on after a good fight we had him at our feet only problem was we were very high. handed the rod over to mate while i climbed down to gaff it. A good gaff shot and up he came KINGIE 94cm 6.5 kilo Sent out another livie had a run but came back in with only the head of the yakka. Figured Tailor Bad morning turned great.
  24. G'day raiders Fished throcks this afternoon and caught 2 Bonito also lost 2 what i think were bonito as well Livies were hard to get because of the sweep. Started fishing with the sweep with no luck, until i caught a yakka and as soon as i sent it out it got smashed and that was the first bonnie. tried to spin for a while with no takers so tried to get some more livies. Got another livie sent him out and in no time he got hit with some great surface action but no hook up. back to trying to get some livies, got another and yes sent him out and in time flat he was getting hassled and then of he went and hooked up and landed. Back to catching livies one more sent out and same thing off goes the reel wait to feel some weight before setting the hook but doesn't come, wind the line in minus the livie. All in a good day fishing
