i think either a fast or slow retrieve would work fine could even just leave it in the rod holder i would be changing those hooks tho they look crap

if your thinking of getting a Spheros and then upgrading it you might as well just go and buy a saragosa to start with the gosa's are a pimped out spheros and there a great reel ive got 2 and i love them i have the 5000 and 18000 no need to upgrade any thing they work strait out of the box (the 5000 might need a drag upgrade) i haven't bothered tho

mate take my advise wait till you can save up the money the sounder is the most important thing on your boat its worh being without one for a few weeks and getting better quality gear im a upgradeaholic i wish some one told me this 3 sounders ago i run a hds8 and couldnt be happier i cant see myself upgrading atleast for a few months

as Jeff has mentioned the shape of your hull and the size of your motor are some of the most important things my boat is small but has a nice deep v and a good reliable motor i take mine 20kms offshore quite abit and feel very safe but i have all the safety gear and always keep a eye on the weather you really need to head out with some one that knows what they are doing and have done it plenty of times just because some one has a boat license doesn't mean they should be taking a boat offshore esp a small boat as for your sounder the auto settings on the HDS units are pretty much fool proof if its not showing you fish chances are there are no fish where you are

very lucky mate not a very good idea to go fishing outside the heads any near cliff faces when testing out a 2nd hand motor could of ended very badly if the swell had picked up when i got my boat i didn't venture outside for a few weeks until i have full confidence in both boat and motor good to hear you got back ok and got a feed

When using circles you don't strike at all just let the fish load up the rod and it will hook itself striking only pulls the hooks fromm its mouth

you can downrig with a jig stick with no worries i used to use a jigwrex s605 and had no problems loading it up just ditch the crappy release clips and use elastic bands instead works great

not bad the round back is pretty crap as it would wobble if you rest it on a table and need to type on it and earphone jack on the side is a bad location at least they got one thing right and thats having it run android there are already a few phones on the market that blow the iphone away and with the release of the windows 7 phones around the corner things start to get interesting
