  7. great combo mate i have the saragosa in 18000 and i love it but have u ever flown with jetstar i spoke to them and they said they wont accept any thing over 1.9mtrs as it wont fit into there cargo boxes i would hate to buy a combo and then have it denied at the airport
  8. is dreaming of taking a 40kg GT on a jig

  9. Cheers Stewy saved me from writing it i use the same method a bit of a hassle but you does the job great set a bit of drag on the alvey/reel when you wind it back on so the line goes on nice and tight

  11. little too much line for a symetre Anth the 4000 only holds 146mtrs of 5kg they are great reels and for there price there a great buy
  12. just spoke with jetstar max length is 1.9mtrs cant be any bigger might look into the TD Saltwater rods they come in 2 peice and what about the orginal sol rods like the TD-SOL 802 HFS its a 2 peice 8foot 12-25lb
  13. cheers guys for the tips i think im going to go with the sol 4000 matched with the TD-SOL 701 HFS and spool her up with some good 30lb braid can get the combo for around $500 online and will just take it up there in the tube it gets delivered in bring on September
  14. cheers mate thats a nice looking combo only issue i see is that its a 1 peice 7 foot rod so would be a pain in the arse to travel with all my rod tubes are all 5 foot
  15. heading up to cairns for a week in September will be going on a few charters and will be fishing from a mates boat while we are there will be taking up my jig sticks for a bit of fun but also want to get a new spin combo for throwing around lures for barra, queenies and alike from both the boat and from wharfs/shore was looking at some thing like the saltist spin 4500 spooled with 30lb matched to a wilson live fibre 10-15kg stick ?? does this sound ok or can you recommended some thing else i want to stick to spin i dont like BC's budget around $600 cheers
  16. when rigging a paternoster you would normally have it weighted at the bottom with a sinker so having weights on your squid jigs isnt really needed as all your doing is jigging them up and down if your using unweighted jigs on the line they would have less tendency to foul up on your main line due to the lack of weight
  17. $650 to install a battery switch you can get a basic 4way battery switch for around $30 or if your after some thing a little more tec that will manage 2 batterys the Blue Sea ADD A BATTERY Dual Circuit System will set you back around $250 very install to install yourself just read the manual
  18. gemfish at the 12 ? you sure they aint barracuttas they do look simular
  19. and its a quick way to turn your rod into a 2 peice ha
  20. i run the hds8 and its a great unit upgraded from a garmin 420s (which is the AUS GPSMAP550) and i love it if you plan on using side/down scan you really need to go with the HDS8 or up with the 8 and 10 you can split the screen into 4 diffrent screens to display all the data you cant do this with the smaller models plus the addition of all the on screen buttons is pefect for on the fly changes to gain/freq and other sounder/gps settings very happy with my lowrance
  21. during winter the trick is to work your plastics slow and downsize them give one of Hodgeys old posts a read will give you some tips on winter fishing HERE
  22. all of these units have internal aerials and there is no need for the external one unless you boat has fixed hard roof i have used all 3 units and i would be going with the Lowrance no questions asked if i had to rank them it would the the HDS,HB,Garmin the garmins are great units but there screen resolution lets them down if you start fishing deeper water your going to miss alot
