  1. Caught one of those rays at Port Stephens and got the shock of my life..... I scooped it up in the net and was holding onto the metal rim due to the weight ray and let me tell you that electricity runs through metal as you all should know!
  2. Landbased Rules... Keep up the kingy katching. Im heading out tomoro wish me luck
  3. I am not sure of the name of the park, but looking on the map it looks like it may be Yarulbin Park...
  4. Well done brother, awesome seeing your dad on the water... I got my first legal kingy 80cm... Happy Fishing mate
  5. My first legal Kingfish 80cm

  6. KRIS KATCHER FINALLY CAUGHT HIS FIRST LEGAL KINGY !!!!! Hello fellow raiders... I headed out yesterday morning with a few mates at 3am for a serious session targeting fresh bait in hope to get some kingies... Here it goes Got to a park near the Iron Cove Bridge at around 3am and started squiding... It was extremely slow and not a squid insight as the tides were king highs due to the full and new moon week. After a good hour of hunting for squid, I came across a cuttlefish. Their aggressive nature helped my hook up and was in the bucket within seconds. Mean while the sun had risen and my mate was on to a Kingy on peeled prawn on his 2 kilo line and unfortunately the depressing PING of the line snapping was heard. With adrenaline running through all of the boys it was time to get more hook ups and try and land these machines. I sent out the cuttlefish with many attempts to set it correctly. It was my first and only cuttlefish so i had to be smart about how i hooked it.. Noticing that the cuttlefish would not sink and continued to stay afloat, I decided to take control and remove the backbone of the fish and save it for my 2 female budgies at home. With the cuttlefish finally set, I moved onto catching my first garfish and again my only garfish as the excitement of catching it resulted in the nasty tangle of my sabiki rig.. I sent out the garfish in hope for a kingy, as they eat pretty much anything. (I've seen whiting come out of Kingies before when other successful anglers have cut and gutted them) To cut a long story short, I hooked onto a Kingy on the cuttlefish rod and the fight lasted 10 minutes and covered 50 meters of the park avoiding rocks and oysters. END RESULT 80 CM KINGFISH ..........MY PERSONAL BEST............ 80 CM Kingy Sydney Harbour Bridge Kingy I'VE CAUGHT MANY RATS OFF BOATS ALTHOUGH CATCHING A KINGY LANDBASED IS 100 TIMES MORE SATISFYING HAPPY FISHING AND THE KINGIES ARE THERE even though there is a current deficit of live bait
  7. Great work Andrew, awesome series of events leading to a nice kingy!! I was fishing Whale Beach this morning and only caught one small rock cod... Perfect conditions for boats outside...new boat??
  8. After completing a long semester at uni and getting a couple of days off work, I found it essential to head to middle harbour for a fish.... Got to the spit at 6:00am, fishing west of the bridge land based, I sent out pilchard pieces and instantly hooked a decent fish and 2 runs later fish separates from the hook..(assuming they were trevally) This happened 3 more times then things went quiet.. Decided to pack up at 8:00am as bites if any were only from small scavengers. As I was just about to leave my attention was drawn to a man on the bridge waving frantically and pointing into the channel..... My eyes lit up and blood rushed to my head as I saw fish jumping everywhere. When schools of fish are breaking the surface and when you are land based, time is of the essence. I lost crucial time trying to tie the braid directly to the lure as braid has low to no memory and sticks together making it hard to get the line through the loops to complete the knot. With a rushed knot I decided it was cast now or fix the knot and say goodbye to catching any fish.... I landed my first Bonito at 41cm (prob average size) on a small metal.. The schools died down after 20 minutes and slowly moved out of reach, into the middle of the channel. Amongst the bonito were a few decent Kingfish (my primary target) but couldn't get any hits.. Braved the wind and rain to get my first Bonitio..... Happy Fishing (rain, hail or shine and WIND) *THE KEYS but not sure if i'm eligable to enter the competition
  9. AWESOME fish mate.... perfect inspiration for the fishing season
  10. Wishing I Was Fishing

  11. when do you goo... my name is kris im a uni student so pretty busy but i love kingfish and love boat fishing
  12. well done mate....... i caught one about 35cm around the peirs in Balmain and boy did it fight... I've been told that the spots or spikes are razor sharp. I;m guessing that is why they are called Surgeon Fish.. I used chicken breast with cheese, although it was an unusual hook up. Essentially these creatures have a similar or even more powerful pulling weight to size ratio then a trevally or even kingfish... the lack of knowledge and lows numbers being caught are probably the reasons why. Best fishing and keep the interesting fish coming !!!!! Kris
  13. i fished lake maquarie monday morning.. 40+cm whiting and bream.... fish i couldnt even stopp, with 10 kilo braid !!
  14. hey kris, congrats awsome catch and what a more interesting way to do it. i was down at pier 2 this morning and a fisherman caught a 70cm flatty and boy was it a hassle getting onto the wharf. good luck fishing and nice nick name !!!!! cheers kris (kristopher)
