  3. Got up this morning at the grand old time of 3 am to headed out to Shady Camp chasing a few freshwater barra, the excitement levels were high even thou we hadnt had much sleep as we only decided to go after a few to many the night before. Any way we got out there and put the boat in with about 17 sets of eyes watching us as the sun came up from the local crocs. so we head off on the troll, I've got a little lucifer on and my mates got a gold coloured barra classic. We troll about 300m and I'm on, my mate starts to wind his lure in to give me a clear path as my barra jumps and carries on just as he's wound his lure past my fish, the barra has one huge leap and spits my lure only to land on his barra classic and he fowl hooks him in the guts. So we end up getting the fowl hooked barra to the boat and it went 56cm just over legal so we were all smiles and a bit of sledging followed on how he stole my fish and that he shouldn't claim it , how it was morally wrong ect. Anyway i was happy to get us off the duck either way. Off we went again and things went quiet for a while until we found a bit of a rock bar which dropped from 6 feet to 9 feet and then stepped down to 15 feet and the sounded had arches on all of the drop off. so we trolled the drop off 3 times for 3 hook ups and 2 boated barra you could almost know when your lure was going to get smashed by a barra it was great fishing. As the day went on we got a few more small barra, a couple of cat fish and a sleepy mouth cod. We decided to head home around 2.30 in the afternoon after catching 7 barra for the day and we kept 5 for the table with the biggest going 68 cm most of them caught on Reidy's little lucifer's in any colour that had green in the pattern. here's the 68cm Barra I caught

  5. Just a quick question can anyone point me in the right direction of a web site that i can look at to compare the stroke and bore of my 2004 30 hp 3 cylinder outboard to the 2004 40 hp in the same motor. For some reason I thought they were the same but old mate at the Yamaha dealer up here begs to differ, just looking at getting a bit more top end out of the old girl. Any help would be appreciated. cheers Bankso
  6. THANKS GUYS, HERES A PICTURE. JUST WORKED OUT HOW TO DO IT THIS WAS THE BIGGER OF THE 2 TOGAS
  7. LAST WEEKEND HEADED OUT TO CORROBOREE BILLABONG WHICH IS ABOUT 100KM'S FROM MY PLACE IN HOPE TO BAG MY FIRST BARRA AS THE WEATHER IS HEATING RIGHT UP AND THE BUILD UP IS JUST STARTING. SO FRIDAY I RACED HOME FROM WORK AND HOOKED UP THE BOAT AND OFF I WENT, ON MY MISSION. IT TOOK ME JUST OVER AN HOUR AND I WAS AT THE BOAT RAMP CHECKING IT OUT AROUND 6 O'CLOCK THAT EVENING. SO I LEFT THE RAMP AND CHECKED OUT THE CAMPING AREA WHERE I COULD ROLL OUT THE SWAG FOR THE NIGHT. SO THEN IT WAS BACK TO THE RAMP TO PUT THE BOAT IN AND FISH THE FIRST OF THE DARK AND INTO THE NIGHT. THE FISHING WAS PRETTY SLOW AND I DROPPED 2 BARRA ON THE TROLL BUT NOT TO WORRY. IN THE MORNING I WAS ON THE WATER AROUND 5.30 AND AS THE MIST ROSE OFF THE WATER I WAS ON TO MY FIRST CONFIRMED BARRA AND AFTER A COUPLE JUMPS AND SHORT RUNS HE SPAT THE LURE, BUT IT WAS EXCITING STUFF AND I WAS HAPPY. AFTER THAT I TIED ON AN UNWEIGHTED SQUIDGIE ON A WEEDLESS HOOK I THEN STARTED CASTING ON TO THE LILLY PADS, NO BARRA BUT I GOT A COUPLE OF SARATOGA AND A COUPLE OF SLEEPY COD WHICH WHERE ALSO A FIRST. EVEN THOUGH THE FISHING WAS NOT THE BEST IT WAS STILL A GOOD TRIP AND SOME VALUABLE LESSONS WHERE LEARNT. THIS PLACE IS A GREAT PLACE TO GO AND I CANT WAIT TO GO OUT THERE AGAIN. P.S THERE WAS SOME BIG CROCS OUT THERE ASWELL BANKSO
  8. Evil i have matched up my TLD25 with a 7 ft Wilson live fibre rod and i find it to be a good combo for all the things you have mention. I hope this helps. Bankso

  10. WHAT ABOUT TED BULLPIT AND HIS KINGSWOOD, THAT SHOW WAS GOLD
  11. BLOOSGOTTABOAT, I DO THE SAME AS EVERY ONE ELSE BUT I USE THE INOX WITH THE LANOLIN IN IT I FIND THAT IS THE BEST STUFF FOR ANY OF MY SALTWATER FISHING GEAR AND ALSO COMES IN HANDY FOR USE AROUND THE BOAT. I THINK THE REASON YOU HAVE TO WATCH INOX AROUND THE HANDLES OF FISHING REELS IS BECAUSE THERE'S SOMETHING IN IT THAT MAKES THE RUBBER SWELL, THIS IS ALSO THE CASE IF YOU SPRAY IT ON YOUR OUT BOARD YOU JUST HAVE TO WATCH THE RUBBER SEALS. 12. MILLER, AS HAVING GROWN UP IN TAREE I HAVENT HEARD ABOUT A LOT OF JEW FISH BEING CAUGHT IN THE MANNING, BUT IF YOU ARE LAND BASED I WOULD BE TEMPTED TO HAVE A GO OFF THE BRIDGE AT CUNDLETOWN OR EVEN HAVE A GO OFF THE BEACH OUT AT OLD BAR WHICH IS A SHORT DRIVE FROM TAREE,MORE DOWN TOWARDS THE WALLABY POINT END YOU CAN USUALLY FIND A GUTTER WELL WITHIN CASTING DISTANCE OFF THE BEACH.JUST A THOUGHT ANYWAY, IF YOU TAKE YOUR BOAT AND YOU WANTED TO TRY IN THE RIVER I WOULD PUT IN AT KFC BOAT RAMP AND HEAD DOWN THE RIVER TOWARDS MANNING POINT FOR ABOUT 1 KILOMETER AND ON THE BACK SIDE OF DUMERIQUE ISLAND ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE RIVER JUST BEFORE THE HIGHWAY BRIDGE THERE IS A COUPLE OF DEEP HOLES THERE THAT I KNOW HOLD SOME BIG FISH OR USED TOO. HOPE THIS HELPS. BANKSO
  13. Penguin thats a leopard tank it replaced the Centuarian after the war in Vietnam and is just about to be replace later this year with the new Abrams. I cant wait for that! Crazedfisherdude it will tow the boat pretty much any where you want to go but the fuel economy is a killer especially with the cost of diesel at the moment!

    2 Stroke Or 4

this one is easy if you are on a tight budget go the two stroke, if you want your boat to go as fast as possible as you will need up north in those croc infested waters that you speak of go the two stroke. this will also help with dealing with the big tides you will encounter up north. the two stroke is LIGHTER, FASTER and CHEAPER just my opion. 17. Basserman Is the area you where fishing around Wingham near Taree? Those bream that you catch up in the fresh sure seem to fight alot harder dont you reckon? Gaven

    New Combo

Walked in to a new shop called BCF today to have a look, as I was in the market for a general purpose rod and reel for fishing outside and for when I move to Darwin in January next year. All I can say is "what a store" I believe its owned by the Supa Cheap mob and it is a mans paradise with all the stuff us blokes like. Any way after spending about an hour looking at all the stuff and dreaming about a lot of it I walked out with a Shimano TLD 25 and matched it up with a 7ft Wilson Live fiber rod (15-24kg) and got some Bionic braid to spool it up with, sinkers and some hooks and after the wife (Minister for War and Finance) gave me the green light. I was off, Happy as a pig in mud. I think this will be a good combo to start with in my outside fishing experiences and all these items were on special so that was a bonus All I need now is time off work to go out . Has any one else seen these stores or are they just in Queensland at the moment? Cheers Gaven
  21. G,day herby not in darwin yet tank school got postponed till the 16th of January so I still have a bit of time left on the sunshine coast.I have been training pretty hard in preparation of when I go back in. I went out Monday and fished the shipping markers and it was blowing it arse off but fished it anyway. Got about 20 Taylor and a little snapper as well as acouple of other fish but no signs of anything decent. we need to catch up for a fish soon Herb. Gaven
  22. Flattie man I didn't think the fisheries blokes had the power to search your boat, I am probably wrong I havent ever been stopped by these guys. I will be interested to find out for sure by other fish raiders. Gaven

  24. Matt Congrats on the fish sure looks like you had a great day, just a couple of questions how far off bribie were you and where you up the northern end or southern? cheers Gaven
