  5. Weiry there are plenty of places to go with the fly rod, there is the entrance to the Maroochydore river system at Cotton tree or you could head down to Caloundra and fish the flats in the passage. thats just for starters, are you land based or will you have a boat? Gaven
  6. Livie Airlie all the way with the young ones you will be able to spend plenty of time around the lagoon/ pool area in the middle of town and it should be warm enough to do a few laps and check out all the backpackers there working on there sun tans . I wish i had of got up there when I was 19 and done my bit for my country so to speak. Gaven
  7. I went into the same shop at noosa the other day when I was up there. When i asked him how much they where I told him to leave them there, he only had 2 colours anyway. At the time the store was having a massive stocktake and I could still get them a lot cheaper at Caloundra. Gaven

  9. Fishing at Borumba Dam hopefully to catch a toga or something that i haven't court before. Its a good excuse to go and try all the new Jackalls that I brought at Amart sports this week on special for $21.50 which I thought was an alright price. Just to see what all the hypes about I got a GOLD SHINNER, SHRIMP and HL BLACK if any one has any feed back on tyhe dam or fishing with these lures for natives I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers Gaven
  10. Thanks guys for the feed back. I was over the moon with that catch as I was only using my bream rod with 4 pound fireline and 6 pound nitlon leader. I was just likely that I turned him and managed to pull him towards the middle of the river with the electric.
  11. Well here goes on my first fishing report : With to day being a public holiday here in Queensland and it not raining for a change. I rang a mate and got him to come up for a day's fishing. So we hit the water around 6am with the wind settling down from blowing strongly all night and the threat of rain we were off from the Bli Bli boat ramp heading up river as I was hoping to get a bass coming down to spawn. We got to our first stop of the day which was a little back creek around five k's from the ramp. With the boat positioned in the middle of the creek and the current running out quite fast we begun throwing watermelon 3 " bass minows around. About 10 minutes in to the campian I put a cast tight in against the mangrove bank and come up tight on a 29cm bream, which was a promising start to the morning. With the rain begining to fall and the wind dropping right off we both reached for the wet weather gear. We moved from snag to snag under the silence of the electric motor. We applied a thick layer of Bush mans so we didnt get lifted out of the boat by the bloody mozzies . Any way we come up to an old wooden bridge and my mate puts his lure up a tree after a couple he ends up getting it out and as soon as his lure fell out of the tree and hit the water a flatty with a death wish jumps on after a short battle he's safely in the enviro net, Happy days where both off the duck so we could now go and try and get some thing a bit better so it back to the main river and off heading up towards another spot I go too. With the rain now stopped the conditions are bloody perfect. So we start fishing the deeper rocky drop offs. After a couple of casts I come up tight with another bream, he's netted and returned to the water. On my next cast another breambo and the confidence is sky high. Another five minutes of fishing and bagging out my mate for not carrying his weight and bang I'm on again this time its solid and i"m thinking Jack anyway after a good fight and a couple of tense moments a 46cm mangrove jack was in the boat and the high fives where going all round after a few happy snaps and he was in the live well those bastards sure are aggressive with him trying to bite me on a coulpe of occasions. I couldnt stop smiling it was a great feeling as I have only court a few jacks since moving up here from Taree which nun had been legal. After a few more hours fishing and another six bream later we called it quits and headed for the ramp. what a way to send the day Gaven
  12. Jethro, As I have grown up in Taree and fishing it nearly every second day of my later life i realise how tough it can be to fish, but you dont have to go towards the river mouth to find good bream. There are plenty of good spots up around Taree it self. Even though i havent fished it for 10 months you should look for a couple of gravel beds to try out . Cheers Gaven.
  13. just checked the roster and its all good for me. I'm as good as there
  14. hey bob I've seen them being count in the Manning at Taree, but you couldn't go out and target them. cheers Gaven

  16. Had a good day the other day using the smelt colour which is my favourite colour in the smaller versions getting 4 Flatties all well over the 50cm mark.
  17. Thanks for the feedback guys i still cant decide on spending the $50 or so bucks when i'm happy with how the sounders going at the moment. Maybe a bit later down the track i might invest. Thanks again for all the feedback. Cheers Gaven
  18. I would say I really need to get a skinnier boat :confusuion: with a good turning circle :ohyeh:
  19. G'day all fish raiders, I was just cleaning the boat out today and found the instruction booklet for my sounder Matrix 35 and as i went inside to get a cold one  started to go through it sitting in the boat with the sounder on simulator and watching all those fish go bye, It had a section on it about the downloads and upgrades for the sounder and I was wondering firstly how does it improve the sounder and secondly is it worth going out and buying all the cables ect, for little to no change? Has any one done it and is it worth the cost as I am extremely happy with the sounder the wasy it is. Cheers Gaven
  20. Mitch, Don''t forget their all Terrorists :uzi: and I dont know for sure how they do it but it will end up costing you in some way :bopper: It might not be obvious at the moment but there will be some sort of pay back times ten. Good luck young Jedi and may the force be with you :grogon:

    Small Carp

Holly :yikes: what sort of gear do you need to land one of those big gold fish? Bankso
  22. I fished with Michael Metcalfe on the first day of the Clarence round am I must admit he has risen the bar as far as the modern bream boat goes and he did have a fish in the boat by the time the rest of the field court up to us even thou we were only fishing at Browns rock. These tournerments are getting more and more like the Bass comps in the USA where they have the big flash boats that cost a small fortune. I think it is getting to a stage where the average person is not going to be able to compete sucessfully in a comp without having some sort of sponsorship or 4 jobs. Maybe we will soon see different classes in these bream/bass comps so the average joe blow has a chance of being competative. But it is a great boat and is decked and fitted out like nothing else I have seen or riden in and handles the chop at speed suprisingly well even if you do get a bit wet.
