Hey fellow fisho's

I am considering buying a Daiwa Saltist as discussed with JEWEL and fishrunner

I am thinking about getting the size 40 standard as the 50 would be too big

looking at spending about $250- $300

any suggestions on any other brand of overheads that offers quality and low cost??

Saltists are nice smooth, strong reels

Lil bit more though but it is a combo,

As in other suggestions, s'pose it comes down to what you are going to be doing with it the majority of the time if jigging mostly followed by livebaiting and trolling then the saltist is a good reel - has a loud ratchet when livebaiting.

But if you reckon you'll be doing mostly livebaiting and trolling then maybe a TLD25 or 20 would be a good choice as you get a lever drag.

Not an easy choice,,,,,,, you could always just get both!

i am thinking about live baiting the saltist but...

yet again i don't know

i have 2 okuma axeon 90 series ($330 each) and don't even really use them

Think the saltist is a great reel, but for live baiting I would stick to a Shimano TLD 15 or 25 (think sammy's got one for sale on here). Some other ones to look at would be the Shimano Torium.

if you are going to use it to spin, then stick with a star drag but you really gotta figure out what you are likely to use it for, for the majority of the time.

Can't reall coment on okuma's as I haven't really used any, have heard good and bad things, but it seems they are starting to get it together.

Those axeon 90's look ok, big capacity spinning reel?, is that the one you meant? not what you were originally looking at though? , could be used for jigging I s'pose , but jigging with 200grm jigs is hard on tackle. so only time will tell.

Nothing wrong with toriums as peking duck has said , if you want levelwind I've only heard good things bout tekotas as well

i have had the axeon's for a while now

never really used it to the max potential

only running 20lbs braid off it

might just give it a hammering and than... go on to the overheads

the is watching my expendiatures because of the 2008 wedding

than my life would be without and plenty of

Happening to me soon too ., so I figure buy all the best I can afford now because after got me then my budget may be restrained somewhat

if you dont say jigging or casting get a tld.

in ten years time you wont regret it. and cheaper than they were 5 years ago!

i bought a fairly second hand tld15 with a new drag washer about 8 years ago and flogged it trolling and watched it get rolled around on the rocks and even occasionally rinsed it and it still loves me.
