caine
spent a week in jervis bay with the family, got back yesterday not much serious fishing done, cause i was fishing land based....on my own or with my 3 year old son in tow got some very nice whiting on soft plastics of the beach. got a luderick and a small salmon off the rocks. saw a guy pull in a 4 foot hammer head of the beach. saw some great wildlife, plenty off birds and roo's all over. wilst rock fishing i got snagged and did the usual walk up the rocks to try and pull free from another angle. i wasnt watching where i was going and dead set steped on a sleeping seals tail. he was mighty pissed off and growled at me. he was at least 60kg or more. scared the shit out of me. but then i couldnt stop laughing. not something you usually get in sydney. on the way back we stopped for lunch at kiama blow hole. saw a few hump backs breaching constanly about a klm off shore. cant wait to go back with the boys and fish it for real

caine
[im going to Jervis for 4 weeks after new years... cant wait. which sp do u use for whiting? and which rod and reel to cast them?] gulp sand worms, i think the best thing i did was go for a snorcal as soon as i got there. then i knew where all the fish where holding. mainly around weed. i only used a 7 foot rod with, a 2000 real. there is an art to fishing soft plastics. but this is a good place to work it out. tips... walk into the water up to your waist so you can cast at the back of the seaweed, thats usually present. when you cast, watch your line not your rod tip. make sure you are on the bottom then give it a little twitch every now and then. you dont need to retreive all the time, but if you cast along the back of the weed and very slowly jig it back to you you should do well. but go for a swim and see the fishies first that will help. i didnt see a whiteing under 40cm i didnt but i suggest you get white sp as the sand is very white.
