Reef Structures Around Pittwater/offshore

Snyper

Recommended Posts

I've got a 4.2m Snyper Aluminium (deep sided) boat with GPS and I was wondering if you could tell me what reefs are around pittwater/offshore that would be accessable with this type boat. Really interested in going for some snapper and other larger species but don't know what GPS points would be accessable (within a few kms offshore)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Brad.

A great place to start your adventures is West reef.

I dont know the GPS co ordinates but I know the marks. Line up Mt Ettalong water tower with Box head. Stay on that transit and head out 1 nautical mile. You will pick up the reef on the sounder. It comes up suddenly to about 13 or 14 meters. I always fish the very tip of it in around 20 m of water though I have been successful right along it. I fished it Friday for some real big squid and small snapper. It also holds kings and big bream.

Whats the name of your boat, I will keep an eye out for you?

Cheers

Guest Big-Banana

does anyone out there have gps markings for pittwater eg the supermarket or sunken boats/ reefs

Why would you need marks for them?

Anyways,

If your after spots mate, just PM me and I and help you out.

Nothing is "always there", squid can be picked up at West Head in amongst the kelp beds.

Either do I, but thats the fun of fishing finding them for yourself and getting the satisfaction of doing so.

Steely

Unfortunately the squid are not always there. Are the squid always anywhere? If they were everyone would be there. I have often got squid there (big, no i mean huge buggers!!) but not heaps. I only knew they were there because they kept chewing the back out of my livies so I put ajig down and left it. the rocking of the boat gave it enough action. I think the trick was that i used a big jig.

I have a real old fishing book from the 70's (the time when chicks in porn had hair and lots of it) and it lists a spot under Barrenjoey. It says to head due east (090 deg) until you can see the light house. I have only fished it once and didn't do any good, though that is not to say it is not a good ground. Has anyone fished this ground and done any good?? Let us know.

When I first bought my boat and moved to the central coast my mate told me to "go back to basics like the old guys did it. drift across broken reefs till you start picking up fish and take a mark when you do"

It was probably the best bit of advice anyone ever gave me, and we have found some great grounds this way. Often they are small little grounds that no one else fishes.

So Steely get out there and have a go. No one will tell you where there is a gold mine, only sort of.

Best of luck and look forward to the reports of Big Reds

Cheers
