Botany Bay 1st Nov

Got to the boat ramp at around 5am ready for a great day.

Should have known better.

Thanx again BOM.

The report was for 5-10kn variable, before a 10-15kn change in the afternoon.

They got me again. NOT HAPPY.

Sat at the ramp for half an hour contemplating what to do as the wind was up.

Saw a fish raider sticker. Said hello and low-n-behold........met Swordfisherman.

Nice to meet you mate.

Eventually decided to give the bay a go. It was ugly..........over 20kn.

Tried a couple of spots round Towra and Watts reef to try and hide from the wind.

Had no luck so went to Captain Cook Bridge. Plenty of small snapper and bream.

Then 2 flathead (45cm and 50cm) in quick succession................then nothing.

Decided to take on the wind and hit Mol Pt for a last horah. Nothing but small

sweep in the burley trail so stopped the burley. Last 2 pilgrims (pilchards)

somehow managed to land 2 x trevs (40cm) and a bream (38cm)

Got excited and broke into another packet of frozen pilgrims only to fish for

another half hour with nothing at all biting.

Dont want a slanging match with anyone ........but have one question...

Why do we bother looking at BOM.

Whats more........love it how they try to predict days in advance, when

they are not even able to get the next day right. Just like the weather

we all like to laugh at on TV.

Sorry, no pics. Already filleted and some of it in the pan.

Completely agree with you regarding the BOM. Was expecting a great calm morning out at Syd Heads but could even get out. The strnger than predicted southerly stayed all morning while I was out and never changed.

Im not sure if they use the info from the BOM but there is a web site www.seabreeze.com.au that seems to have slightly varying data from the BOM and MIGHT be more acurate.

Kenji.

PS - Have you heard if the Kingies are back in the Bay yet? I usually fish Syd Harbour but will make the trip to Botany when the Kings are on as its a bit of a change

Not heard much about them..........but then again I have been a bit quiet on the fishing front lately.

Have never actually caught one in the bay so im probably not the best person to ask.

Hopefully one day Ill work out how to get amongst them.

Fishraider Stickers??? :1yikes: Where do we get these from?

Steve

Steve (Steve Mc), you can source them directly from Fishfinder - here's the link: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/inde...showtopic=14725

Steve (pretend fisherman), really good to hear that you managed a decent bag of fish. As far as weather sites go, I check each of the following:

- BOM

- Seabreeze

- BuoyWeather

- WindFinder

Synoptic charts are also always worth a look...

Mate, you were'nt the only one suckerd by the BOM yesterady.... :mad3:

Took me 4 times longer to get to the spot, soaked to the core and the wind still coming strong hours later.

Even at 5 am the BOM was still stating 5-10kn NE!!!!!!!

Got onto some tailor & salmon though, as I was heading back to the ramp , there were large schools up against the forshore at Brighton.

Getting scattered reports of some rat Kings starting to come through.

Cheers

Well if Seabreeze is correct then we're stuffed for this weekend - once again.

Strong southerly winds, rain and big swell.

There goes my plan to chase jewies in the Hawkesbury on Saturday night.

Hey Mondo when are you gonna use that new downrigger of yours? You could troll pittwater on the way out to your jewie grounds. :074: Cheers Kelvin
