mick309
I caught this little snapper today in middle harbour and its mouth was full. It looked like a swollen tongue or an egg in its mouth, it was soft to touch, Can anyone tell me what it is?
0 mrsswordfisherman
I believe it is a swim bladder. When fish are brought up from deep water they expel their bladder sometimes (something to do with equalising pressure I think). Happens a lot in offshore reef fishing Cheers mrsswordfisherman
0 mick309
It came out of about 10m of water, It didn't seem to have any trouble swimming off, not knowing what it was i didn't pop it, come to think of it i have seen a similar thing come out of the side of a leatherjacket about a year ago in pittwater, he didn't make the swim home though Edited December 24, 2006 by mick309
