Gday everyone my name is Keith and I'm from the Picton area in NSW. I mainly go down the south coast to fish.

Here is my question:

Ok Here's the scenario..

The tide is high at 1:30pm in the afternoon Dead low at 7:30pm or there abouts.

Are we better to fish the High Tide running in or out or do we wait till just before dusk to go out after the flatties with SP's?

Obviously if the time of day and tide corresponds its going to be better but thats not always going to happen! So which is the lesser of the two evils?

Run out tide is best. What location are you fishing, beach or estuary?

Estuary doesn't matter what time, they are opportunistic feeders and you can catch more in the day than at night. Live poddy mullet is best.

I am sure raiders will have more to add here too.

Thanks for the welcome Mrs

Usually fish lake illawarra but am going to try minamurra river next. :D

:1welcomeani: kjd. Depending upon water temp, the run-out is normally best. I'm not familiar with that waterway, but I know that some Raiders are. SPs such as mid-size (65-100mm) Squidgies (fish and wrigglers) will get you onto some fish. Try bright or very dark colurs in the murky run-out water - use a jighead between 2 and 4g.

I think that tides for flatties is all about the spot you are fishing.

There are places in Bot Bay that fish well on arun out in summer with poddies but then you have to use strip baits on the run in during winter.

There are flats I fish on a rising tide and then move to the deep for the ebb.

I dont believe fishing just one tide is ideal its all about location

That's exactly right, Dave. That's why I mentioned that the run-out is normally consdiered the best in most estuaries. I prefer to fish one spot on the Central Coast on a strong run-in. You make a very good point about location.

Thanks guys will keep that in mind.

ATM Lake Illawarra is closed at the entrance but they are dredging it very soon so it will become more tidal from that point which I hope is soon!
