Guest BBM Rick
Your probably all sitting there thinking why? Why target carp? Well, its because they are there! I have just moved into Woodcroft (near Blacktown in Sydneys west) and the Lake over the road has carp in it! Fishing on my doorstep! As I have never caught Carp, let alone targeted them, I was hoping for a little insight that would increase my chances. Any takers? Cheers, BBM Rick. If it is, you might want to berley up your fishing spot with bread or corn just to get the carp to swim to your spot. I find that they bite more early morning and late afternoon. I tend to use a small hook also when fishing for carp. So is there many carp in the lake Rick? I live around Baulkham Hills I might give the lake a go when I'm free. Flattieman
Hi Rick. There's a fair bit of info here: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/inde...showtopic=17764 My answer would be exactly the same to you. I do use a pretty large hook, though - I find that it doesn't affect the carp's willingness to bite, and allows you to present a big, visible, smelly bait with a bit of extra strength for when you hook a biggun. domza
when i fish for them in nopean, i use a very small hook on a wooden float rig, so the bait is suspended half way in the water. for bait i use either bread or corn and if i can be bothered i make a dough mix out of flour, water and some of my koifish pellets crushed up. good luck with getting the stinky guys out of the water

Guest BBM Rick
Thanks folks, this is pretty much what I suspected, but it costs nothing to tap into the wealth of knowledge here, so why not! Keep an eye out for a stinky report soon!!

PPSGT
Hi BBM Rick, I watched a UK fishing series called "A Passion For Angling" produced by two Famous English Course fisherman who specialise in Carp. Its seems what you need to do is the weekend before you plan to fish you need to build yourself a scarecrow, but be careful to make sure you have two sets of identical clothing & hat. You then take him down to your chosen spot, stick it in the water then throw bread, corn and what ever else you plan to use for bait around his legs. This burlying needs to be done everyday for a week, at around the same time you plan to fish your "swim" as they call it. When your big fishing day arrives your second set of identical clothing comes into play - You now make you way down to the "swim" put on your identical set of scarecrow clothes, and replace the scarecrow with your now identically dressed self. The carp now accustomed to being feed by the scarecrow will now be swimming around your feet eager to take your baits.... The funniest thing about the TV show is these guys were dead serious, and the scarecrow wasnt even the wackiest idea they had! Check out their website http://www.passionforangling.info/ Seriously catching carp is super easy - as many people on fishraider have suggested corn is great as it doesnt smell, stays on the hook well and the carp being mainly vegetarian love it. Bread and tiger/garden worms also work well. Use heaps of bread for burley, three or four good size carp could eat a half a loaf and still be hungry. Use what ever rig you like - the simpler the better carp are not fussy nor particularly bright and about a No 6 hook. Remember you cant return them to the water, so take a Philips head screw driver and spike them in the brain (about where the black dot is ) to kill them humanely Carp are heaps of fun to catch especially for kids and your doing the environment a favor!
