Penguin
Hi fellow Raiders, Took the boat for a cruise on Syd harbour Monday arvo, with my mate Bill, after several hours we decided to stop at Clifton and have a flick of some plastics. We were using 3" Minnows, and occasionaly I'd throw a 9"Shad about. In about 1 1/2hrs we caught 5 Bream to 32cm,1 Flatty 49cm,1 Tailor 45cm, and 1 foul hooked Leathery 36cm. We were using 3.5kg line on the minnows, and had 3 bust offs, where we didnt see the culprit responsible. At 1 stage Bill was pulling in a Bream and as I went to net it,i saw a huge King follow it up to the boat and turn away ,I screamed out King to Bill,he says where, then at that exact second the King came back up and scoffed our Bream,I said there,as his rod buckled and his drag screamed zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.Bill still was not sure how his Bream just shot off to the depths at such speed and power.Just as his brain worked its way around what was goin on,ping. I could not believe it,this was a legal Bream of at least 27-29cm by my reckoning, and now it was some Kings dinner not ours. We got over it soon and continued to fish,Kings were following anything we would bring up to the boat, then shoot back down.We lost a 2nd Bream of about the same size as the 1st,but we both got a good look at the theif this time,it was awsome, he came right up beside the Bream and eyeballed it for a second, then gave one kick of his tail and did a simultaneous 180 degree turn and swallowed Mr Bream head 1st and off he shoots and again we were not getting our Bream back as the 3.5kg mono went pop. Thought about livebaiting a bream but we were not game to put dinner out to be stolen again, plus we were not planning on fishing so we were not prepared tackle wise. penguin pics are from my phone Edited February 6, 2007 by penguin

Aloosh
Hey peeps, hope all of ya's are doin well. Penguin, i believe what happened 200%. Around 3 years ago at clifton gardens wharf i was pulling in a big trevally, roughly 35-40cm, and two kingies came behind, literally when it was one metre away from being pulled up. it was hooked at the stomach - and i swear one of the kingies lunged at its stomach area and as soon as that happened, a chunk of meat came off the trevally, and it fell off the hook and the kings went down after it. i was looking on in disbelief! Also, its very common to see kings trailing fish that you catch. Here's a tip, and this worked for me a good 2 months ago at the wharf. If you're on a boat or the wharf and u see someone landing a fish and a kingie is around it, tell the person to keep the fish in the water while the kingie is still there. Drop in a SP near the fish and i'll put my money on that the kingie will take it. It's happened twice with me now . Both times the kingie won :/ An amazing site nevertheless! Good luck, and a great catch penguin. Edited February 7, 2007 by Aloosh
Penguin
Aloosh mate, we threw a 9" shad at the Kings when we'd see them but they would not touch it,they seemed only interested in live Bream today. penguin
Aloosh
Ay Penguin, hmm, well kingies gota take the cake for being one of the pickiest fish in the harbour. you can have a live squid cast out and they'll take a prawn when they feel like it :|. I guess they were craving some good old bream over anything else lol. The sp's i used were in the order of 4-5cm. aloosh

Yeeros
Mate that reminds me of t time in port hacking when we had a king about 1.5m long come up and smell a 2.5kg trevally that we were bringing up. It was a few years ago but i remember it like yesterday! It was the biggest king i have ever seen in reel life. Hey by the way how far out from the jetty where you?
