Penguin
I've got a bit of a problem, maybe some of u may have some better ideas than me. My elderly neighbours who are the best neighbours one could wish for,and are so helpful and kind, have a problem, and its got me confused and lost as to what else I can do. I often go bush and bring them some goat meat from my farm, or Yabbies from one of my dams or waterholes.I bring them fish from the sea whenever I go fishing. My elderly neighbour has a small boat and fishes himself occasionally. But lately he has been sharing his catch with my family and I. I suppose this is bcoz of all the goodies I bring them, like I said hes a great guy. However the problem is that his catch usually consists of small Snapper. The latest batch 2day 20-25cm. I have been trying to educate him on the size limits but to no avail. I have told him how often we have had visits from fisheries on the water, he says hes never been checked,in fact he says that when fisheries officers see him in his boat ,he just waves at them and they just go past him. I tell him we cant eat these small snapper as they have hardly any flesh on them, but they still turn up on my doorstep. Now his wife has seen the light and tried to convert him after I have showed them some of my Snapper photos, she didnt realise what he was bringing home were babies.Hes still stuck in his old ways. Any one got any better ideas that i can try,and as far as im concerned reporting him to fisheries is not an option that I feel I can take. penguin

Jewhunter
It is not easy educating people who are stuck in their ways. You just gotta keep nagging him mate. Get his to nag him as well. He'll get the message sooner or later. Try to rave on a bit about c/r as well. He might start enjoying taking a pic & letting them go & only keeping enough of the larger fish for a feed. You could always tell him you have plenty of fish in your freezer & thank him kindly for his gesture & return the fish he gives you. You would have to do it as not to offend. Great to see you trying to spread the word on doing the right thing mate. Cheers, Grant.

In the mean time them lil pinkies go in the freezer till garbo collection day. What a waste. penguin
slothe
technically you are also in the wrong as the law states having in possesion as a breach so I would politely decline his offer as previously mentioned
Robbielites
Maybe take him out on your boat for a fish and get him onto some bigger ones to show him how much fun it is, while you are out there set up some lighter gear so you get the smaller ones at the same time, just keep throwing them back reinforcing the message. Good luck with it. Cheers. Robbie.
Penguin
technically you are also in the wrong as the law states having in possesion as a breach so I would politely decline his offer as previously mentioned I know but I dont see fisheries turning up at my doorstep with a search warrant for my freezer anytime soon. penguin Maybe take him out on your boat for a fish and get him onto some bigger ones to show him how much fun it is, while you are out there set up some lighter gear so you get the smaller ones at the same time, just keep throwing them back reinforcing the message.
