hi oldsalty, Watch Fishing Western Australia on Foxtel Sunday morning - they used a knife jig to downrig for samson fish The way they did it was to have a crane swivel at both ends on the jig - the jig only 1.5metres in front of the hooks - as the jig also acts as a attractant. Troll speeds were slow at between 1 & 2 knots with them stoping every minute to allow the bait to sink back down to the zone. good luck

One thing you must take with you regardless of the amount of rods/reels/lures is a GIMBAL - your going to need it! Do a google search on Lord Howe Island Adventure bound - there is a good atticle there that may help.

Maybe Heath can enlighten us, fished the gold coast with my uncle when i was a teenager - caught plenty of spainiads there as well as snapper - the mackrel came from trolling - snapper from anchor - these boats look anchored.

hey penguin......do you have any issues with the rigger out the back instead of the side, i know the quinnies have a pod like transom - and its also on your transducer side - do you ever worry about the cable or the bomb taking your transducer out? ....i know with the gimble mount you cant mount it sideways without making a new pad/adapter

I recently brought a st-r narvara - this is a run out model and the dealers are doing great deals on them to get rid of them apart from the big turning circle & having little leg room in the back i cant fault it & at $34,000 on road with free bull bar you cant go wrong. also with the warranty if you get it serviced at the dealer you buy from (nissan) they double the warranty to 6 years.

There is a Shimano lanard avaliable - but it is quit long They are easy to make - i used 200lb line with a loop in one end and a quick release clip on the other - as another raider said "make it long enough to initiate the fight and un-clip once und control" good luck
