Penguin
Hi Raiders, Fished Syd Harb 2day,started off at Balmoral for livies,no luck on the squid so we tried for yakkas, got 8 in 20mins,also had a peeled prawn out,and a live yakka as we would see the odd King come under our boat. The funny thing was that the Kings were not chasing the Yakkas and the yakkas were not trying to avoid the Kings.Anyway I managed an 81cm Long Tom on the peeled prawn,he was fun to catch as he would jump about and do some tail walking on the water b4 I got him in. We downrigged a few yakkas at the yellow marker at Quarantine, lost 3 yakkas there,2 spat the hooks and the 3rd resulted in a bust off,I could feel the line rubbing on the markers chain then pop all went quite so we went off to the wedding cake.We downrigged again ZZZZZZZZZZ line peels off the reel ,grab, strike and nothing, yakkas gone, whack another on and we move 20mtrs ZZZZZZZZZZZZ,clip releases and line takes off,Bill strikes hes on,brings a King to the boat, looks just legal,I grab the net only to see Mr King take off,and he leaves us one very dead yakka .Another boat comes ova and joins the one already there and anchors up,now no room left to downrig. We head ova to the red marker where the old cake was, 1st pass nothing,2nd pass I see fish on the sounder, the clip releases and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, I strike fast and no weight, bye bye yakka,3rd pass, release ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ,then nothing no hook up and no yakka .Down to our last livie,so we anchor up and drift the last yakka and some baits toward the marker for zilch.1/2hr later decide to move im pulling the yakka in and my rod buckles, this fish takes me down then left then right then1/2 way back up,then slack line,no weight, our last yakka stolen Got the sh#ts with our results so far, so headed off to Clifton Gardens and anchored up,berley out, baits out and sit back and relax. We pulled in 2 Trevs 34 and 37cm, then my float goes for a swim I tighten the drag and land a 50cm Bonnie on a pillie. Then we get a 33cm Snapper,27cm Bream and 3 Flatties 37-39cm.Last fish for the day was a Watsons Leaping Bonito at 47cm,my 1st ever and boy did he put up a fight, he felt twice as strong as the other Bonito. The Watsons Bonnies were under our boat for over an hour and were hard to catch, they would only take Prawn shells as we were turfing them in the water just feet away from us.The one I landed was caught on a peeled unweighted prawn. That was it for our day. Long Tom and Watsons Leaping Bonnie, have now been entered in fishraider bait fishing records section. penguin Edited March 21, 2007 by penguin

The fish we did hook were fun even though we lost em,and for the ones that didnt hook up, I think the hooks I was using were a little big for the small size yakkas that we had,I had bought some new hooks but left them at home in the rush to get out of the house, maybe that explains it,or just maybe the Kings were just too smart for me today penguin
marcel haber
not a bad catch thee penguin, for a very quite day on the kings. My brother and I were out fishin yesterday and only managed to land one undersized kingie. Not much action happening anywhere. W e did not see any surface action and not much on the sounder too. Went home empty handed, caught 5 squid which we used as bait. Better luck to us all next time round. Tight lines ttwin

Flattieman
As usual, another fine bag of fish, mate! Even though the kings didn't want to play ball, your contingency plan paid dividends and what a lovely feed you managed. Flattieman.
