End of line for illegal fishers

Fisheries officers yesterday seized a commercial trawler caught illegally fishing off the Sydney coast.

The 18m boat, operated by a 3 man crew of NSW fishermen, is suspected of trawling for species

such as flathead and john dory without a fishing license.

The trawler capable of storing several tonnes of fish, was spotted by an Australian Fisheries patrol

crew who boarded and seized the vessel.

The crew face charges of fishing illegally in an Australian fishing zone.

If convicted each crew member could be fined up to $27,500.00 and the trawler and fishing gear

permanently confiscated.
