zip2155
just wondering if u could use mullet caught from freshwater, nepean, chippo etc as live bait. ,very curious if they would survive in saltwater.Or even as fillets as bait would they tempt anything? looking forward to replys. I am asking because i have a good little mullet spot at penrith.
Guest IFishSick.
No harm in trying, I wouldn't think that they'd die because of saltwater as Barramundi swim in and out of it all the time. So do Bream. Poddy's are great Jewie and Flattie bait
domza
i think it might work, just don't throw them straight into 100% salt water. Try mixing half fresh half salt in a bucket for 15 minutes or so.
zip2155
just heard from a mate he reckons they end up making a transition from fresh to salt 4 spawning or somethin so there must 2 types of mullet..... salty and freshy
shane87
There are 2 types of mullet that you will catch in the nepean up at penrith. Bully mullet and freshies which have a much smaller head. I used to catch them a few years back at yarramundi and use them for shark baits when chasing tigers. If you get into a run of bigger fish around the 1-2kg mark they are great fun on light line amongst all the weed that is choking the river up that way.
