got a couple of days off work,

yesterday took the wife and kid out in the boat for a picnic and play on a private beach.. and of course a bit of fishing

the tides where crap during the day,

fishing was slow.

the water was very muddy due to recent rains

managed only 1 jew at 46cms (went like a plastic bag on my 15kg rod)

after that got about 1 million of catfish

but was a good day out anyway

i noticed a lot of very small dead stingrays when walking along the beach, counted 5 in about 50meters. the beach was down wind!!!

what would cause the deaths though?

Do I dare to say it . . . . . . . . . . the ghost of Steve Irwin?

Even then catching too many sting rays, or 'unwanted fish' shouldn't have people going and just throwing them to die on land. :( Nothing wrong with sting rays in my opinion.

nah mate they were washed up on the beach and half decomposed.

i suspect a poor atempt of catch and release.

got me wondering if rays a sensitive, and have a poor survival rate after being hooked

Not sure about that. I got one a couple of weeks ago with an old hook, trace and swivel hanging out of it's gob. Didnt stop it swallowing a nice slice of mullet and another 3/0 hook.
