The fish hangs around the wharf so there's no need to cast far.
Davy
although a longer rod may help to keep fish away from the pylons
TheDiko
although a longer rod may help to keep fish away from the pylons I would prefer a longer one for a longer cast and more direction over the fish around the pylons. Also you can work the lure right to the warf and don't have to bend right over to get the rod tip near the water.
KingsRule
I rekon a 7 foot rod is just about perfect. 80% of the people that fish there use 12" beach rods and cast half way to rose bay, little do they realise most of the fish are at there feet Use lighter lines , you will get more bustoff's , but get way more bites. But if you want to preserve the place you fish in go the heavier stuff.........When I lose a fish everyone hears about it and the warf gets a big kicking and smashing
SUBLiME
Yer your smaller rod should do the trick, I head down with the same sized rod and it serves me well.. caught me my first Frigate down there the other week! Lately there have been a few frigate swimming around Clifton... so look out for 'em! I take two rods, one to catch the smaller fish with like Yakkas, then another slightly bigger rod, which has a lure attached to it, waiting for the moment when the school of fish arrives and the surface of the water starts bubling with fat fish on it Good Luck Shant

bmar560
what sort of lure ? metal ? Not much luck with metals this year. 3" bass minnows on 1/16th jighead have been doing well for me.
