Hi guys just a quick question and probably a dumb one, how do i accurately distinguish the different bottom type when sound around, some times i have no idea if it is sand, gravel, mud or reef bottom.

is there a way i can tell jus by looking at the bottom lines thickness or anything.

any help would be much appreciated.

The harder the bottom, the darker it will be. You'll soon become accustomed to determined whats under your boat. Sand is a very light colour, whilst gravel will be much darker. Reef is a little harder to explain but you'll know you're on it.
