Sadly , this is an all too familiar view of my good mate Stumpy!! All that nasty navigating stuff takes it out of you ! :074: -------- [ Added by jewgaffer. This photo is all that is needed as the real ingregient of a jew fishing hero and this guy Stumpy will never know it as he's always awake on the jew fishing job!! :074: }

I was able to sit in the sun , and chat with our Admin , and some other members who were likewise enjoying the ideal conditions. Also , had a great talk with Jack and Cathy , from the Volounteer Coast Guard. I now know exactly what it is that they do , I recommend that any of you that have some free time , consider joining!! Spent a very pleasant few hours with Jewgaffer , who had pulled an allnighter in his boat , and was quite content to sit in the sun , and discuss all things angling!-------

-------Soon enough , it was time to do the prep for the " Lunch Service " . I would like to thank my more than capable assistants Jewhunter , Johnno , Rzep, Cathy and Jack , and my mostest favouritest one Mrs Rzep. I quite simply could not have done it without you , keeping the food up to 100 hungry fishos is not a job for the faint of heart , you outdid yourselves !!--------

Firstly , Stewy and Donna , for all of their help and support. There was never a problem too large , or a detail too small , that they didnt help me with . Thank you so much , it is a rare priviledge to be able to call you my friends!.------

Next , the irrepressible Jewhunter. He helped not only with the cooking , but keeping us all focussed to the task at hand , also for providing a very welcome  or 3 to keep us hydrated !

EDIT : This article was meant to be posted in the Fishing Chat Forum but it went into Social Events.

First of all the jew fishing result. Anchored at Taren Point at 5pm Saturday with a plan of intercepting a few jew near the moored boats in about 8 feet of water between the first southern pylon and the moored boats dead on low tide. Got a friendly wave from a member called Hussar 480 who I think he said his name was Albert when he gave me a big wave and yelled out something that sounded like Fat Albert when I asked him his name. Fadalabed had pm'd me for advice on Tom Ugly's or Taren Pt for fishing land based. The other Guy, called Guido a bloke who said he would be delivering our pizzas in his little dingy around 10 o'clock didn't show up

The only thing that was funny and exciting was my auto electrician's from Blaxand Road cousin, also an auto electrician and a part time drunkard as well we soon found out.

He managed to smuggle on board two dozen stubbies and a huge bottle of Chivers Regal whisky laced with arsenic or something it seemed and I don't drink or like any grog on board either.

My poor wife Shirl was very impressed with him sober and told me to make sure I look after him and I finished up even thinking of a hanging by gaff. :1yikes:

He apologised about 10 times and fell over twice while hugging me about fifteen times to apologise for continually apologising for pestering my jew fishing plans and tactics with apologies for keeping on pestering me with apologies about anchoring up and continually apologising for badgering me to take my boat out deep sea fishing at Browns Mountain in the middle of the night.

Fortunately he had sculled the Chivers by 10 o'clock and Stewy's Gary Boxfish went into a coma caused by work tiredness not by the lack of a drink. The young bloke rang his mother to drive in from Appin and pick up her drunken son this time from the boat in the water at Taren Point at 3am.

I can understand how his mother felt in a way as 45 years ago my good wife Shirl tried to get me and Petie Ward out of the water with her half stupid brothers and that was about 3am and about jew time too.

The inebriate's mother arrived and I thought she was about to jump off the bridge to rescue the drunken goon as usual. I knew jew time was close and refused to budge so he waved down an overloaded little tub with three men in the boat, Turks they said they were and offered to pay them fifty bucks to drive him about thirty metres to the rocks at Taren Point.

They near all fell into the water the way he launched himself like Frankenstein into their little boat. One the ugliest Turks said he drove a Sydney cab so I can understand his hitting the brakes and his head on his mate's head pretty hard for a quick fifty bucks.

I don't know what happened after that but it seems by all the havoc, a fishless Fat Albert will be sub-poena'd to some Court or other as a witness as well.

Our jew fishing result consisted of our 10 inch tailer fillets being replaced by 8 inch tailor to be filleted so I finished up six tailor fillets in front on the night.

And four bream on prawns at midnight, one bream of good enough in size for a Christmas dinner for two. Others were caught on prawn on my bait jigs including a small soapie that wriggled off my two little hooks on a bait jig, just near the boat.

My partner boxfish caught bugger all on on the night or on the Social day either but it was not not for his lack of keeness and his trying hard. He was very good company mainly because he listened even when he was sound asleep and not saying nothing much at all as he kept on waking up and falling asleep again as I continued on with his half day jew lessions.

I caught another three bream before high tide about four hours later, which I finished up cutting up as fillets for our Botany Bay bits later and giving two others to a lady called Johanne, not Stumpy's Johanne though I don't think they got there till much later.

Thanks Ross for all your kind help and to your wife Cath Flightmanager for looking after me with cups the coffee and breakfast and Donna with getting me a nice steak and the works for lunch.

Thanks also Kath for the nice conversations we had in which I did most of the talking as usual after our all night session on the jew. And what a collossal rod and reel set you copped for your birthday that you showed me, ay Ross.

And to everyone who joined in, I simply say when I get right into talking about fishing and tactics, it's just to get you on high beam and I know it's like talking to someone whilst gagged and having both hands tied behind your back! :1yikes:

It gave me great pleasure making up that deadly three hook flathead rig for Cath, with two hooks snelled four inches apart at the bottom, with the third hook dropped down the leader the opposite way, turned around and snelled back the front about four inches away giving room for near a foot of separate bait fillets rigged up back to back.

Ross that was my favourite jew rig with 6/0 hooks as each way bets and Ross we'll have to have Cath and yourself a fair way up river the way it now looks and bring No1 to do all the trailer work, but I reckon he'll be the only one of us that will be able to catch any fish

Fishing news:-

To all the members who tried so hard in such clear water conditions on the Social day on a lure or soft plastics:-

After the snap change on Sunday afternoon after the social my mate Mohammed from Rosemeadow and his dad Peter went fishing in the afternoon as soon as the afternoon change came up.

Mohammed called into my home today to tell me me he was visiting his Dad, an old taxi mate of mine, in Bankstown and they decided to fish up at Lugarno off the point near the Marina. He told me they fished the old chicken fillet and cheese trick and got over 20 bream. Some of them thumpers in eight foot of of water and they caught three jew to about 5 kilos on yakkas thrown out into about twelve feet in the same spot.

So here's the go the fish have moved up river in the ongoing poor conditions which you may know have all been south in one way or other over the past few months and the old jewgaffer was a bit too slow to work out the old up stream capers probably by losing a bit of keenness due to the pains in my back.

I got off my boat ok even wallked well but a pretty sore through the sand in the morning still learning to walk properly following my back operation by my neuro surgeon, professor Noel Dan and ongoing help from my chiropractor and my fishing mate Dr. Kevin Ivins who is also the conditioner of the eels football team.

A special thanks to Donna and Stewy for making us all feel part of the family and a special thanks to you Stewy when I decided to head out watt's reef way to give Boxfish another chance to better his second prize in the largest flathead last year. But it was a shame he had to beat a near 4'6" Wobbiegong shark caught off the mouth of Yarra Bay.

I got off my boat ok even wallked well through the sand following my back operation and my chiropractors help. I'd liked to give a special thanks to Stewy for running down to meet me as I got off the boat and by insisting on walking all the way back later to leg me back up on the boat.

I word also like to thank all the officials for the nice welcome they gave my fishing mate Cungee George, who is a new member, a diver and an occie specialist, and our mate Larrie the Mouth who joined Fishraider at the social on Sunday under the name of Occie1.

It's great news that members of the Coast Guard have decided to join us and a nice welcome to you all.

I would like to add that our jewy mate Waterrat, Chris Popp from Sans Souci Water Police, joined up last week and phoned me on Friday that other members of the Sydney Water Police and are wanting joining Fishraider as well

A special thanks to Grant Jewhunter for his friendly nature and just being a good bloke and I'll be very glad when we fish together with Stewy and Grant and Jimmy Bowers from Ballina and Jakjayno1 a champ of a bloke and a young gun from Kingscliff who Grant has already met up with recently.

Nice to meet up with the good bloke PeterS and his mate Syd who has an amazing likeness to a young pick-a- box Bob Dyer so he says he now becomes pick-a- box Syd for the night trip with Peter and myself for jew and snapper up to Burraneer Bay.

It a was great to see Stumpy again. The last time I saw Murray and Johanne was one day at Hawkesbury when Stumpy and Ross and no1 son were trying to convert pike eels into hairtail it looked to me, to make something inedible half fit for consumption by burning them in Stumpy's floating restaurant the Bertram.

Cheers everyone and I tell you what, I don't think you should miss any of the socials even if we are all just go out fishing for fun.

Hi Jewgaffer

Sounds like a good time was had by all!!! Ably assisted by the 2 doz stubbies & bottle of whisky!! Not that I am an advocate of boozing on the water ........ :(

The Raiders family is a great bunch, eh? I caught up with Grant earlier in the year when my other half was doing a triathlon in Byron Bay & Grant brought his tinny down & we fished the river - a great day. Top Bloke.

Hmmmm ... Bob Dwyer lookalike ...... I wonder how many others know who he is .... other than him & wife Dolly both being top Deep Water fishing champions!!!

Cheerio
