Jigholio
"3 miles southeast of north harbour amidst 2m+ swells with a persistent chop and an approaching storm, captain Jig Holio pulls the first slug of the season after a 3 second soak...and its clear the crew of Furball are on the mack." The net result of this 40min mayhem session: 36 slimies, 2 good choppers and an undersize kingi wearing a half-corroded 8/0 suicide hook as a body piercing! awesome fun on tag-team 2kg spin gear. We followed the birds for a while, then realised this was pointless. The school was so massive even the birds didn't know how to track them-they were everywhere. We left them biting as the swell was rising, the wind was battering & twilight was near, plus Bung had gone from brown to green. Wherever schools like this appear a caravan of predators is sure to follow. Hammerheads in particular shadow big mack schools. Down went a mack with a 1lb snapper lead, up came clean-cut 100lb mono . Could the mack schools be an indicator to the recent spate of shark attacks?? Whilst this was happening the Statendam was steaming by, and was picture perfect with South Head as a backdrop. The Bung is a good mate always eager & positive but never caught a fish. His has always outfished him and it burns him up that she's got the whole hunter/gatherer thing going on. The poor bloke spent the GDP of a small African country on a game charter during his honeymoon in Tahiti for a blank...should've parlez vous francais Bung. He was bouncing off the gunwales during this session, he looked like a brown version of this I'm stoked to have a few months bait supply in one sesh, and the silly grin on Bung's dial was priceless. Bung is stoked to have seen such action and take home a couple of nice choppers for the table. Methinks the oh-so-close inshore billfish season is going to be huge. Time for that deckwash & tuna tubes I've been promising myself. Must add 49 strand cable to the shopping list as well If you're taking a kid or n00b fishing these holidays, get em on the suicidal macks. It's instant non-stop light tackle giggles and they'll be hooked for life. tight lines everybody!! Edited December 22, 2007 by Jigholio
tomahawk1999
It's great to hear that the masses of bait have turned up! The marlin and other predators wont be too far away. Doesn't seem too long ago that the purse seiners out of Ulladulla and surrounds had a proposal on the table to commercially harvest the slimies and cowanyoung for pet food. So glad that common sense prevailed for once.

Yeah my mate is an executive chef of international repute and reckons slimies are top notch gourmet grub if salted for a week with herbs & pepper, then grilled or BBQd. Cant wait to try it, he always hits the mark and would cry if they were turned into cat food!!
