I thought about them but they say they only get down as far as Nth NSW. My ones were very close in appearance to the coral cod but the colours werent as vibrant, and they were a bit darker. The eyes were a bit closer to the snout too a bit like a barra. They were a bit shorter/stumpier too.

Maybe it wasn't a cod, there are plenty of fish in the wrase family that may fit the description that get larger than the average species of wrase most people catch.

True it may not be a cod, and probably isnt thinking about it now as the cod seem to be a bit longer and have eyes further from the snout.

made Coral Trout??

Nah theyre tropical, Im looking for south NSW

This is the closest pic I can find to the shape of it. Scrap the cod idea..

Nope. Oh well might have to chalk this one up to mysteries of the deep I think. I should have asked the locals as they are pretty common down there I picked up two of them. It may well be a Wirrah or an estuary cod with different colours. I think its time I bought myself a waterproof camera.

Did it have a chainsaw in it's hand and was it a cheeky bugger? That would make it a Murray cod. :074:

Sorry Stumpy...couldn't resist :tease:

Pete.
