stricko4
Gary, From what I've heard the best way to hook the sambo's is to replace the trebbles with single hooks & this results in a much better hook up rate & less dropped fish. But in saying this i haven't tried it myself. Young Robbie who fishes/fished regularly at Clifton gave me this advice a while ago. Paul
flatty hunter626
fairly sure you are allowed a max of 3 trebles. not 100% but i remember reading it in one of those fishing booklets put out by fishiries
Bruce the Postie
If it's Salmon your after , then single hooks are the go !. Single hooks will increase the amount of fish that you bring to the boat no worries . Cheers , Bruce
Hodgey
Here ya go, mate http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recrea...ions/sw/methods No more than 3 treble hooks attached to a lure. jewgaffer
hey raiders hit south head for a troll at 7.00am thought we would go to the first point just to see if there were any sambo's about........ ........can any body tell me if it is legal to use 3 sets of trebels on the lures and would this help to stop sambos spitting the lure if it is not legal anywe headed home at 12.00 gary Gary I agree with Bananaphobic about using single hooks on salmon to bring more into the net. Salmon have very soft palates for size and the opening where the hook/s penetrate can tear and work the hooks loose, especially a couple pulling in against one another and ganged hooks can work against one another in the same manner. Rather than trebles, we used to use two hooks snelled close together off the bottom of a spoon jig and a home made trace in between the hooks and just above the spoon, made of coated wire tied to our mono, making more direct contact with the salmon without any swivels and that fixed the problem. Cheers jewgaffer
frangkie
single hook is the go, they have a much harder time spitting them out. Salmon rarely spit out plastics but often spit out metal slugs ect,

caranx
Nilsmaster diving minnows in the larger size come standard with 3 trebles. Singles help to stop a fish throwing the lure, but the hook up rate can be less. Note that when swapping trebles for singles on lures like x raps, minnows etc it affects their action , and in some cases quite a bit. Not a problem with metals. Best hooks I have found to swap out to are Decoy jig hooks.
