Gday raiders,

Im after 2 reels for 9.5 & 12.5kg UglyStiks and I came across this reel in my searches.

I havent seen this reel before and wanna know if any raiders know or have used this reel before?

There's a spiel below from the ad.

Thanks for any advice!!

Penn Accord 8000 spin fishing reel. The Penn Accord has been custom built with the braid specialist in mind. The reels feature 4 stainless steel ball bearings plus infinite anti reverse, lightweight graphite body shape, aluminium spool with double ported holes and a sealed, high performance waterproof drag system. The drag surface area is large for reels of this size, offering silky smooth performance under the hottest of runs. The Accord spools are large and V-shaped with 0 degree taper for longer casts and better line control. Line Capacity: 250yds/30lb. Weight: approx.760g. Ratio: 5.1:1. A good all round reel for all types of fishing including barra, cod, perch, flathead, trevally, snapper, shallow reef, beach and more.

I have the Accord 2000, and I also have 3 x Applause 2000. These are a great reel in this size (for the $$$), particularly the Applause. Smooth drag, line lays nicely on the spool, and relatively light.

Most of the fish I target don't challenge the quality of these reels, but I think if you want to chase something with a bit more 'go' (like Kings, snapper, etc), then I would probably look at the upmarket models for piece of mind.

Cheers

Hi Tan, Penn reels are U.S. designed and very reliable reels. They are a proven reel with a very good drag system. They are now made in China under strict quality control from Penn U.S. In the heavier line classes Ugly Stiks and Penn Reels are recognised all over the world as well matched combos.

The fact that the Accord 8000 takes 250 yards of 30lb mono line and is designed for braid speaks for the strength of this particular reel.

Another Penn which you should look at for those rods is the good workhorse, the Penn Captiva or if you spend a little more, in the SS range, the 750, 850 and 950 will handle almost anything that swims and like all Penns are also top value for money.

Cheers

Im on a tight budget regarding reels this year. I think the Accord will allow me to target upto 20lb safely with the UglyStiks. I would have preferred to get 2 Shimano reels to use with the rods however $$ is my enemy at the moment. So this season I'm leaning towards the Accord and maybe next season I'll upgrade.

Seeing that you said that you'd rather buy shimano a budget up to $150 per reel shouldn't put a stop to that.

The only problem I have with Penn is that they license out their name to other reel companies, so you really have to make sure it's a penn reel made by penn and not made by someone who paid a licensing fee to smack the label on.

I'm sure other companies do this too but I know penn does it quite a bit.

You'd get a Shimano Symetry for $150 wouldn't you?

I have seen these reels too - dont like the build quality vs. other comparable Shimanos

I've seen the BTR 3500 too and have a BTR 6500 but its a big heavy beast of reel! Im saving that for the T-Curve Spin outfit.

Thanks Relaspe - I am a but iffy bout Penn's but the Accord seemed to hit the mark? Im still confused.

I think the Symetre would be a little light on for 10 & 12 kg Ugly Sticks.

Penn Spinfisher 650 / 750 / 850 for around $125 or the 950 for $150 would be my choice.

PM sent

Cheers

Was gonna say the accords are great .. that was .. until i picked up my 2000 sized one and noticed that the clicker has started to play up.

It has not had a lot of use as I have many others.

What I am saying is to spend a lil bit more and get something of quality. Off to the tackle shop tomorrow to fix/replace the Accord tomorrow then..

Gave it a yank this morning and it is working again.

So although I would recommend these (cheap reels $50-$70), I'd rather spend more coin on the dearer, higher quality stuff. Note you only get one spool.
