Jumping Mullet

why do the mullet jump in the lane cove river (saltwater side)?

people have said that they only eat micro alge, if this is the case why do they jump.

I want to catch them on fly but the bread flies are of no interest to them even with burley around.

I was thinking about trying some small dry trout flies as I reckon these fish are eating very small insects.

any thoughts?

good read there hodgey, i reckon they are just crazy fish. good fun on light line though in the nepean with the 3 kg bruisers getting around.

ive ran a few lures past them and they fly out of the water... also they jump alot around the low slack tide at my spot...

I always manage to hook jews in the LCR when the mullet are jumping

I saw small mullet jumping today down at Gough Whitlam park

looked like the were chasing very small baitfish
