wise one Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) In the past, this website has had high quality and free sea surface temp / current charts: http://www.marine.csiro.au/remotesensing/o...weS/latest.html Unfortunately they have not updated the chart for over a wekk now. Just wondered if anyone had any insight into this. I've tried using the Sea Surface website, but I find that 90% of the time the cloud cover on the SE Coast makes the charts unusable. The CSIRO seem to have some algorithms for interpolating results and hence give good charts despite cloud cover. Edited November 21, 2008 by wise one
smokinjoe Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 wise one, recently a petition was going on other websites to keep it open. I am pretty sure that due to lack of resources ( basically money ) the CSIRO will no longer fund the the sst images etc. So thats why it has virtually stopped. I didnt think they would cut it that quick though. Someone else may have more info?
wise one Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 Looks like they may have just moved it (and unfortunately stopped putting the current indicators on the map). Now appears to be here: http://www.marine.csiro.au/remotesensing/o...Hob/latest.html
Makaira Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Looks like they may have just moved it (and unfortunately stopped putting the current indicators on the map). Now appears to be here: http://www.marine.csiro.au/remotesensing/o...Hob/latest.html The satellite went offline for a few days, it affected all SST services - should be back now.
wise one Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 The satellite went offline for a few days, it affected all SST services - should be back now. It is indeed back up and running, however the CSIRO have stopped putting the sealevel contours and current strength / direction arrows on the charts - shame really because these were useful for us fishos!
wise one Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 Good news - the site is now back to "normal" with regularly updated images which now include current direction / strength arrows.
