Guest bluecod
Just respooled with 30lb Spiderline mono [fluoro yellow] and on two occasions whilst winding good fish up from the bottom [1400ft of water], have been bitten off above the double when the rig has been less than 100ft from the boat. :-mad2 I''m thinking leatherjackets may be the culprit, but has anybody else had this problem with fluoro lines? Guest pedro
Dunno Bluecod - but where are you fishing in 450M of depth. Thats a bit of a workout for retreival
cajun
Might not be jackets in that depth, but the oceanic green toad will do the same thing. Geez I hate em. Are you fishing for Hapuka, and bar cod etc at that depth? I''d hate to winch up a double header of goats from that deep! Cheers Ken Edited August 23, 2004 by cajun
Guest bluecod
Sorry folks - forgot to mention location - Brown''s Mtn. Any retrieval from that depth takes an awful long time and with fish on its pump and wind all the way. We go out looking for pelagics and if there''s nothing around on the surface we will change terminal tackle and have a drop or two for Cod or Gemfish - may as well get something for time spent travelling out [and to prove we can actually catch something] :ohyeh:
